I think this sets a new high water mark (no pun intended) in terms of hurricane warning language explicitness. Those of you in the path of this storm, take care of yourself, and find some higher ground.

well, death will come eventually. i can't say that this adds anything. "Also, residents will face certain taxes from the federal government!"

heh. but yeah spooky tho! gtfo.

this is shallow but I hope all the cool clubs down there are spared.

Yeah people were flipping shit when they heard that warning. At least it got their attention. A couple of my friends in Galveston were actually staying down there until they heard this warning.

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.

"Son," he said without preamble, "never trust a man who doesn't drink because he's probably a self-righteous sort, a man who thinks he knows right from wrong all the time. Some of them are good men, but in the name of goodness, they cause most of the suffering in the world. They're the judges, the meddlers. And, son, never trust a man who drinks but refuses to get drunk. They're usually afraid of something deep down inside, either that they're a coward or a fool or mean and violent. You can't trust a man who's afraid of himself. But sometimes, son, you can trust a man who occasionally kneels before a toilet. The chances are that he is learning something about humility and his natural human foolishness, about how to survive himself. It's damned hard for a man to take himself too seriously when he's heaving his guts into a dirty toilet bowl."

        "Homes MAY face CERTAIN death"

        that doesn't really make sense.

Ike is supposed to be the largest hurricane to hit tx since hugo in 89. the cloud swath takes up the entire gulf of mexico.

hope everyone has gotten out of there. we're expecting severe storms on sunday from ike all the way up in stlouis.

        Ike is pissed.

think he's referring to the disconnect between "may" which implies something that might happen, with "certain," which implies something that will happen.

Stay safe guys, Ike looks wack. I'm a bit curious though... why are the warnings so odd with this one? ie. the proximity of the hurricane warnings and the tornado warnings, take a look. http://www.wunderground.com/tropical...s.html#a_topad

As I understand it, it has to do with the fact that the storm surge has the potential to submerge most of Galveston Island. If it were hitting a regular land mass, it's probably unlikely that the warnings would be this grave.
