    NYC - The Gates

Hey all... I was speaking to a few of you guys earlier about going to see the Gates in NYC, and if you are nearby YOU SHOULD NOT MISS IT!!!

Anyway, I am gonna post some of my photography from the past few days spent in the park, today it rained and I got some great shots... I just uploaded a gallery onto my site, and it seems to be working fine from here, but I just put it up so if it doesnt load, try again in a bit. I'm pretty pleased with this bunch and I am curious for constructive feedback or reactions in general...

The gates are an amazing installation, I totally agree. I work in the time warner building and I have the privelege of getting to see them every day! I'll be sad when they go, orange is my favorite color.
    Peace.

I see a bunch of ugly orange curtains...

I don't think it is art.
The sailors of the United States Navy are among the most disciplined, devoted, and well-trained fighting men the world has ever known. They drink gasoline and piss fire, The spit bullets and shit bombs, and will swim across the ocean with a knife in their teeth just for the chance to carve up those that threaten their homeland.

well, you should check out some of the stuff they've done in the past...like wrapping the Great Wall of China in fabric. I can't sit here and tell you what's art and what's not...that's in the eye of the viewer. However, try to see the bigger picture of what they're doing, I think it's pretty amazing.
        Peace.

I enjoy the fact that I had enough sense to get out of NJ at the age of 17 for fear of forming opinions on things I know nothing about, and not realizing what an asshole it makes me sound like...

and I agree, it is pretty amazing. I like watching all the people in the park looking at the gates and seeing the look of thought on their faces.

I saw it yesterday, it was pretty nice, something cool to visit.

I don't see all the fuss in it though, I mean don't get me wrong, it is pretty neat, but definately overhyped.

In todays Times they were talking about people selling items from it (bolts that hold it up, tubes that held the curtains, etc) on eBay for hundreds of dollars

ditto, not wasting my time, it cost the "artist" a couple of million out of his own pocket

                      Re: NYC - The Gates

I totally enjoy constructive debate on art, but I was actually asking for feedback on my photos more than on the gates' themselves...

I could be asking for trouble... ??

Dude, it's really pretty in contrast to the winter deadness of the park, and the artists don't claim any minimalist brilliance, they just love transforming large things temporarily. Its odd, but visually it at least is thought-provoking. When they all blow in the wind its very soothing and something else, I guess just beautiful... if you hate orange, I guess you're fucked. Dont go to home depot or walk down the main hallway in my apartment. Goto my main site and click the big 7 to see photos that are not orange if ya like.

just click the little www blue and white pill under my post. I wants pills, meds, xanax is blue..

I don?t know if this is art, but it sure is a cool thing to look at (great pics, man!).

It should be funny to look at people?s faces while they stare at it...asking themselves "But what does it all mean?!?"

I love that it doesnt mean all that much, but its wonderful to look at, and art doesnt have to mean a goddamn thing other than it being a creation that is not a replica of something pre-existing (and even then we have exceptions).
