    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
CITY FLY RECORDS 001 ‘VISIONS EP’
Since its inception over 6 years ago, Leicester-based club night City Fly has concocted an alchemy of sounds that have drenched the city in the deeper, soulful and techier shades of house – simultaneously revitalising the city’s nightscape and gaining a reputation as being one of the finest underground house nights in The Midlands. Not content in hosting some of the finest purveyors of house including Motor City Drum Ensemble, Space Dimension Controller, Red Rack’em, Boe Recordings’ Ben Parkinson and Secretsundaze’s Giles Smith, City Fly has metamorphosed into an all-encompassing club brand, incorporating both national and international residencies and a bi-weekly radio show – City Fly Radio on www.myhouseyourhouse.net. Now expanding their vision further, City Fly HQ promises to be a nexus of activity over the coming months with the birth of their new label, City Fly Records.
Wanting to showcase the sounds synonymous with their ethos, City Fly have fully represented the house spectrum with their debut ‘Visions EP' release – featuring four artists handpicked to illustrate varying flavours of the house palette...

    A1 – JAMES JOHNSTON – ‘MOVE FORWARD’
Kicking off the EP is in-vogue Glaswegian James Johnston who after rekindling his love-affair with house has released 12”s to great acclaim on labels at the forefront of the house revival including 4Lux and Kolour Recordings’ offshoots Undertones and House Is The Cure. Looping vocal snippets over a warm, shuffling bassline and tight percussion, ‘Move Forward’ metamorphoses into a multi-layered and textured effervescent groove – bubblin’ over into a dancefloor bomb. Complete with a cool, intermittent vocal sample preaching the values of ‘moving forward’, the track perfectly encapsulates City Fly’s ethos of being at the forefront in exposing and pushing cutting-edge, forward-thinking house...

A2 – YSE – ‘SAVE IT FOR LATER’

Next up is City Fly favourite YSE aka Ant Plate of infamous Derbyshire (just up the road...) deep house duo Rhythm Plate. Under his YSE alias he has released a series of EP’s on Lost My Dog records – with tracks like ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘Worry’ already future classics – and more recently the ‘Drawn At Dawn EP’ for cutting-edge house label Ornate Music’s 10th release. ‘Save It For Later’ is another signature YSE groove – complete with warm swirling pads, a bouncy syncopated rhythm and teasing vocal snippets, it’s has a typically idiosyncratic yet instantaneous and infectious vibe that will be perfect for a nocturnal jam...

B1 – TONE CONTROL – ‘ILLUSION’ (TONE CONTROL REMIX)

On to the B-side and City Fly have an exclusive in the form of re-releasing a secret weapon – Tone Control’s ‘Illusion’ complete with an unreleased remix from the guys themselves. Originally released in 2008 via their Tone Control imprint, despite its warm groove and infectious hook it went under the radar apart from those who were really in the know. Fast-forward to 2011 and City Fly are proud to be exposing the track again, with this Tone Control remix taking a far deeper trajectory than the original version. With its warm bass, lush keys, acid squelches and yearning larynx, this is definitely one for the lights down low...

B2 – BASIC SOUL UNIT – ‘THINK IT OVER’

Joining the dots between the classic sounds of Detroit Techno and Chicago House yet with an ear open to the future, Toronto-based Stuart Li aka Basic Soul Unit has a distinguished discography – featuring on many prestigious labels including Versatile, Mule Electronic, Mathematics, Ostgut Ton, Philpot and Creme Organization. ‘Think It Over’ is another deep and transcendent production with a timeless aesthetic, the track adds another dimension to the EP with its techier undertones. Submerging the listener with its deep bass and driving synths, it’s a hypnotising groove whether on the headphones or lost in the club...
