Layo and Bushwacka! built their career on this irrefutable cool-factor, impeccable timing and a dedication to both producing and performing great music. Living in London, hanging out with the fittest kittens, creating dancefloor anthems, getting prime hookups and occasionally jetting out to bring back the freshest buzz, this duo has made an indelible mark. They now undeniably hold a place among the most elite in this fiercely competitive industry.

Labeled as tech-house, house or breakbeat, the duo is comprised of Matthew ‘Bushwacka’ Benjamin, a percussionist in the London School Symphony Orchestra and Layo Paskin, a North Londoner who was birthed from the acid house and “Clink Street” scene. Along with dance music legend Mr. C., Layo started The End, a world-renowned London night club, which is where he met Bushwacka.

Since it’s opening in 1995, many globally respected artists played at The End at significant points in their careers. Roni Size won the Mercury Music Prize whilst hosting a residency at the club in 1997. Fatboy Slim was resident at the club when he went to number one in the UK charts in 1998, Layo & Bushwacka! Released their album Lowlife in 1999, Zero 7 were residents at the club for two years in the run-up to the 2001 release of Simple Things, Scissor Sisters played their first UK gig at the club, and Erol Alkan went from being chosen as Best Breakthrough DJ at the 2002 Muzik Awards through to winning Mixmag’s DJ of the year in 2006.

Although the club closed in 2009, its influence is unforgettable and, having served as a launching pad, Layo and Bushwacka! now hold their own. They’re responsible for several chart-topping tracks, including their Billboard #4 hit Love Story. The duo have also on several occasions been guest DJs on the revered Essential Mix with Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. Still with the irrefutable cool and, having rubbed shoulders with some of the greatest acts out there, Layo and Bushwacka! confidently promise a punch of their own. They rarely play in the states, and even more rarely in clubs as intimate as RISE. Come check them out for the first time ever in Boston at The Hub’s best kept secret.
