hmm one little thing i have noticed recently

ok maybe this is something adam could poss look into in some ways but recently when searching google for a particular dj ( any one that comes to mind ) i,ve been noticing that since the whole DJDB thing was introduced and the names of those dj's are blocked out due to their names being links on this forum that in basic google search results mercuryserver.com comes up less and less when maybe a few years ago it was always one of the top results

i may be wrong in my assumptions though

any thoughts on this one ?

Google Webmaster Tools says mercuryserver.com was displayed in 1.8MM search results from May 20th to today. I think you're wrong in your assumptions

ah ok cool, maybe i was looking into it a bit much and really hadn't considered that the savages had been mass posting on forum after forum with the same links thus pushing them a little further up in google results

was just an idea though adam, if there is nothing to worry about then i,m cool with that m8

but i looked @ it from another point of view though which may sound a bit weird but again its just a random idea... when ur browsing ms when ur not signed in and trying to read posts which contain dj names that are in the DJDB you obviously can't see who everyone is talking about

now say i was this person ( new to the game ) and looking for a particular set and did a search such as i suggested earlier in the thread and i got a result coming up for this site and i got.....[you have to be signed in to view this post] 2006...what do u think are the differences ( number wise ) in people u think would actually join the forum to see that piece of text compared to the people who would actually dismiss it and go looking for what they are searching for in another place where the exact match in text is openly displayed ? ( does that make sense ? )

i,m looking @ it from a point of view of getting/encouraging new members to join ms rather than just have a quick look @ the site then go somewhere else

actually disregard that as the thread titles are not hidden

what'll be interesting is to see how the DJ pages start ranking in a few months. Every time you type john digweed it pushes some link juice back to his profile page...would help if there was a way to auto generate meta KWs/descriptions and H1/2/3 tags for the artist pages.

Re: hmm one little thing i have noticed recently

actually there was a bit of method in the madness so to speak, i just didn't explain myself properly

ok ..... what sets out MS from most other mundane looking old boring forums is that there is a little discogs thing going on there, we have a huge culture of lurkers on the net ( that's fact ) but there is a potential for new members within that field, the thinking behind what i said last night was to highlight what MS has to offer what no other forum has by somehow ( if possible ) writing a little piece of code that sets a ms DJDB link viewable for these potential new members basically selling the whole idea but at the same time still hiding the actual download link for those sets...

if these links were click-able to non members it not only sells the artist page but also sells what ms has to offer for that particular artist and could potentially draw new members to the site... as of now and i,m looking @ it from a lurkers point of view u come on and read some of the posts right now and were all talking about djs/artists of who are already in the DJDB and if ur not signed in then there really is no way of telling who is being talked about by the members of the site already... its kind of off putting for people who don't know what ms is all about as they really can't get a grasp on what's being said/discussed and the likely hood is those potential newbies will just go to somewhere where they can lurk happily ( does this make sense ? )

One of the reasons we decided to hide the links from guests were complaints from members because they could not get download slots easily enough thanks of all the silently leeching not registered users.

tom i,m not talking about the actual download links ( i.s. filesonic/medifire/megaupload/ul etc etc ) i,m talking about making the DJDB links view able e.g. josh wink, john digweed, sasha etc which are blocked out when ur not signed in

ok heres an example of what i mean, take the following jibberish small sentence

" sasha took john digweed hand and ran down the josh wink set while david guetta and tiesto bummed each other in the rainbow tent AGAIN "

now log out and look @ that sentence, my point is that this could be exactly the info a certain person is looking for but of course they wont be able to read it if they are not signed in or don't have an account so they are likely to look somewhere else for that info

its just a random idea but can u understand where i,m coming from

p.s. just to be perfectly clear here i,m not talking about actual links to the sets themselves
