If you’re feeling unenthused by the current crop of painfully twee ‘summer-sounds’, then step this way and revel in the superbly un-summery dark delights provided by Dave i.d.
After years of playing with post-punk/industrial act the Virgin Prunes, Dave ‘i.d.’ Busaras began a solo career when the band split up in 1987. Since then, he has been experimenting with the Prunes’ signature sound, gradually morphing it into his own warped electronic vision – the atmosphere of which is nailed absolutely in his Clash mix.
The opener, ‘Black Antlers (Where’s Your Child?) – a gloomed-up cover of acid house act Bam Bam, by seminal industrial experimentalists Coil – is a twisted stunner, writhing between a noise track and a dancefloor cut. Retro synth fetishist Com Truise then makes a welcome appearance, followed by some classic New Order. Also included are the mighty Killing Joke with their punky new wave anthem ‘Love Like Blood’ which fades into a droney number from the irreplaceable beast that is Throbbing Gristle, climaxing the downbeat goodness perfectly.
Dave i.d.’s debut album, ‘Response’, is out now on !K7
