^ you're right... i got all hyped about it hehehe

i dont know the answer to the question, but i hope progressive/acid/tech house doesnt break into the mainstream, cuz it will become pop music, and will be more like business instead of passion

when i meet a girl the second question i ask (are you seeing someone comes first) is if they like electronic music

i think prog/house was real popular in the twilo days because it was asociated with ecstasy... the fall of ecstasy equaled the fall of edm and the rise of hip hop.
because of that the rave act was introduced and promoters were afraid of booking edm.
i think for it to become popular again it doesn't necessarily have to change, it needs to be associated with something so the less educated listener can enjoy it... if a opular star starts enjoying edm, their audience will start thinking its cool to listen to edm... it has to become trendy to attract the masses.....
anyway its all a cicle and it will comeback. look at the popularity of the WMC. every year it gets bigger. look at places like NYC and miami, the UK
prog djs still thrive in these places.

believe it or not tiesto is doing us all a favor by exposing youngsters to a for of EDM. these kids will grow tired of trance and move on to greener pastures. so let tiesto capture them, we'll take over soon.

agreed. a lot of us probably won't admit they were into trance at some point in their life, even if it was a really short while, but in the long run, it does do some good... eventually people will get tired of the same zap-zap-tilly-zapzapzap sound and think of Tiesto's music as of what NOT to listen too... just give it time.

                sorry for the double post.

It was some measure designed by profesional musicians to judge the difficulty (in lack of a better word) of a piece of music. The most charging factors were key changes and rythm/beat/whatever changes. The more intricate the tempo and so on, the more complex a piece is. The highest scores were from classical music of course and the lowest for some brazilian dance songs The conclusions from the article were that the complexity can be quite easily translated to popularity - the less complex music appeals to larger audience, while the more complex pieces are savoured by connoiseurs.

If you used this measure to rank edm genres, trance would probably prove to be teh simplest kind, while prog would land somewhere at the other end. This could explain the differences in popularity. And it also means in order to get prog to the masses it would need to be simplified = it would not be the same prog anymore.

Let's face it. We're the elite of the edm listeners. And let's leave it this way.
hell yeah, that's interesting and definitely makes sense... you happen to remember where you read that article? maybe you can get us a link? i'd definitely like to read more about that kind of stuff. =)

tiesto is obviously a far better dj than digweed if he's gettin booked to play places like disneyland think of it this way, if he's playin to kids in a theme park, hes not polluting clubs.

well when i scrolled through the forum subjects i did see tiesto vs. digweed under "question" so i thought it was some shit like that too, and yes im sure all of us here would agree with you c zavala, but that is sort of obvious. Teisto, is a commercial whore, that did sum him up best. The ppl that i find who listen to him arent really into it at all, but are more the types that listen to anything that comes on the raadio...because they either dont care about good music, and just want to get fucked up, or are just lame ass posers...i went out to eat in williamsburg, ny yesterday in bk with all of the hipsters..some fuckin girl was bobbing her head to some i hav no clu sounded like some techno la bouche bullshit..she probably likes testicle, i mean tiesto. Neverthesless the food was good at that place, and that girl made me laugh..sort of like when i went to hear ferry cortsen at roxy once, for 10 min b4 i left th eppl there were screaming for him but it was so bad, cheesy played out bullshit. i heard tiesto at exit once, he fucked up twice and ppl were chanting his name like it was inentional, i mean the music stopped completely the second time. it was awful but those crackheads and musclefreaks can do whatever it is they do...without me
