So, I'm getting married this summer and we've decided to head to Italy and Greece for our honeymoon. My fiance spent a short part of a family vacation several years back in Venice and Lake Como, but other than that neither of us have any experience with that part of the world.
Ideally we would like to fly into Venice and travel to Florence and then Rome. I'm assuming that this will be done by train since that's what I discovered is the easiest method doing what little research I've done so far.
Getting to Greece is where we need advice. We noticed that there is a ferry (boat) that runs from Brindisi, Italy to Patras, Greece. From there we could take a train to Athens. This seems like a pretty good idea on paper, but is it a decent trip?
Assuming that cost is no option, how would those of you that have travelled this route get from Rome to Athens? Should we just forego the ferry trip and take a plane?
What points of interest are mandatory along the way? What suggestions do you all have?
**Edit: I should have mentioned that our wedding is planned for June 25th and we are planning to leave the 26th (give or take).
