01 David August – True Romance
    02 Nina Kraviz – W-Bleu
    03 Dinky – Luvin
04 Henrik Schwarz – Now This Way
05 Matt John – The Blue Storm

The Cocoon Compilation K, being the longplay flagship in the Cocoon catalogue, adequately starts the second decade of the label with a musical imperative. But don't worry: even if the letter K has sometimes been misused as an indicator for the degree of hardness of some sonic noise in the past of the Tech-House scene, "K" is definitely the deepest survey of contemporary electronic dance music that has ever seen the light of day on Cocoon Recordings.

The beginning is performed by the 20-year-old Berliner David August, who was able to establish himself as one of the most promising talents in the capital's scene with releases on Diynamic and Stil Vor Talent. With its sensual and melancholic SloMo-Disco and a short Acid insert, "True Romance" sets a first massive musical exclamation mark.

After this, it gets profoundly hypnotic, thanks to the Siberian singer and DJ/producer Nina Kraviz, who already caused a stir with her releases on Radioslave's Rekids label and with being the host of Moscow's Propaganda Club. Her dreamy vocals and the streamlined Deep House of "W-Bleu" are for sure something that Baby Ford would have been proud of, too.

Following these two Compilation newcomers is Alejandra Iglesias aka Dinky, who was already able to give her career a big kick start with the unforgettable "Acid in my fridge" seven years ago. "Luvin" indulges the senses with a darkly shimmering Disco-House-Pop draft and some subtle Goldfrapp reminiscenses, and has thus what it takes to become one of THE summer tracks 2011.

The Berliner-by-choice Henrik Schwarz from the Inner Visions circle is then uncompromisingly setting the course more to the dancefloor with his mythic-percussive Dub-House runner "Now This Way", while the Far-Eastern-like, hypnotic reduction of the "Blue Storm" by Matt John – one of the most important artists on the Berlin in-label Bar 25 – irresistibly takes our collective consciousness to Floor #7 after that. And so, literally each track of this standard-setting acoustic treasure chest deserves a detailed appreciation.

The meeting of the two House modernists Christian Burkhardt & Einzelkind ("Icon") as well as Sascha Dive's Minimal-Ska-influenced "New Frontiers" show that the Rhein Main area is still good for some damn innovative tracks.

Maetrik shines again with his dirty Soul-Tech ("Caught Between), and with the mean high-frequency Wild Pitch "The Thrust", the Greek-born Argy delivers the inofficial successor of his "Unreliable Virgin".

Besides that, the Dutch Rush Hour shooting star Tom Trago continues the long-lasting history of Detroit-sounding relations with our neighbour country in a congenial way, using a quite percussive organ motif ("Fifth Fase").

The Mainz-resident Butch doesn't need an introduction anyway, at least since "No Worries" came out – with his siren-like Deephouse jewel "Antique", he could hardly be ignored this summer.

The compilation is completed by our two favourite Swedes Sebastian Mullaert and Marcus Henriksson aka Minilogue from Malmø. Three years after the phenomenal "Animals", their 16-minutes-track "Blessed" is without doubt the most sensual and melancholic title that the two have ever produced together, and this track is a more than dignified finale for an edition of the Cocoon Compilation that is hardly to be exceeded when it comes to acoustic perfection and artistic richness. You can't get any closer to the pulse of modern electronic music culture, in a little more than 100 minutes.

    02. Austra - Beat and The Pulse (Steffi Bass-Break Dub Remix) [Domino Recording Company Ltd. | RUG429T]

On the heels of Austra's critically acclaimed debut album, Feel It Break, comes the Sparkle remix collection, out digitally on July 25th and on 12” vinyl on August 22nd. Leading off Sparkle is a dark, pulsating remix of Spellwork from NY duo MNDR

Legendary producer Mark Pistel (Hercules & Love Affair/ Meat Beat Manifesto) and one of DFA's newest artists, Planningtorock, finish off side A with stellar remixes of Lose It. Side B opens with a straight up peak hour, club ready remix of Beat and the Pulse by NYC's Still Going and rounding out the 12 inch are remixes of Beat and The Pulse by Dutch deep-house producer DJ Steffi and Berlin's best kept secret, Kool Thing. The release also features bonus remixes by Norway's 120 Days, Canada's Young Galaxy and more Mark Pistel mixes. The full tracklisting for both formats is as follows:

    04. Stimming - Snowflake [Green | GR13]

Stimming returns to Green for the first time since the release of his stunning "Gaensebluemchen." His beautifully unique and avant garde productions have won him a legion of loyal followers who wait impatiently and excited for news of his new work. We are part of this collective, making it all the more fulfilling to be able to play host to the latest music from Hamburg's finest.

Fresh off the back of his artist album "Liquorice", and with his new co-productions alongside H.O.S.H. ("My Shadow") and David August ("Sexy Biest") causing a stir as they ready to drop on Diynamic's 50th release, Stimming is in frighteningly good form.. as he proves on this brand new two tracker, "Cheescake" / "Snowflake."

"Cheesecake" on the A is indeed, smooth and creamy in texture. Its crisp snares and hats are paired with an off kilter bassline, twinkling keys, flute and acoustic guitar, to create a delicious base for the its sweet vocal topping. At first "Snowflake" on the flip sounds like an orchestra in tuning mode. Snap of a snare, the pluck of a violin. Its only when the kick drum and bassline drop that this collection of sounds is fused together. A skill and sound that is without doubt unique to Stimming. Love those hand-claps!

    05. Robert Babicz - What A Day [Babiczstyle | BABICZSTYLE:004]

"Made a summer track today, as i feel like it...." [Robert Babicz]

German music producer and dj Robert Babicz released his first album, Colone Acid Science Trax in 1992. Since then he has gone on to be a world-renown dj; performing all over the world and founding several record labels. His most recent label (Babiczstyles) was founded in early 2010 and he released his first EP on the label, “Nektar” in April.

His new EP is entitled “What a Day,” and it is quite a departure from his recent albums. It features brushed snares and a warm comforting bassline working brilliantly with twinkling melody and sensitive piano stabs. His bubbling bass synths drive the track as waves of sax lap throughout. The result is progressive house at its finest.

    06. Giorgio Roma - Across The Eastside (Terry Lee Brown Junior Remix) [Rockets & Ponies | ROCKD009D]

GIORGIO ROMA “Across The East Side” (Rockets & Ponies)

Having been a long term studio partner with Santos, its actually somewhat of a surprise that its taken this long for Ciociaria born Giorgio Roma to deliver his debut release on the label. But boy, it was worth the wait…

Giorgio has actually ridden the Rockets & Ponies, when he lent his remix talents to "Big Run" by Alex Dolby & Santos back in May 2010. His fantastic muscle-bound tech-house and techno has also been seen on releases for Mantra Vibes, Bouq and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat. March of this year also saw Giorgio team up with Alex Dolby to remix Surrealism's "Heat", exclusively for Danny Howells' "Phase One" compilation on Dig Deeper.

Today Giorgio drops "Across The East Side", a quite brilliant deep yet driving production. Jazzy brush snare work and spectacular array of cymbals are matched with killer piano riff that will light up any floor. On the first of our remixes, man of the moment Adam Port steps up and brings a extra helping of sub-bass with him. Hold on to your stomaches people! Finally Plastic City boss Terry Lee Brown Jnr takes us on a deep and deadly excursion Across The East Side…

    08. André Lodemann - Riven Reminiscences [Freerange Records | FR154]

    Artist: Andre Lodemann
    Title: Riven Reminiscences EP
Release Date: 20th June (Vinyl) 18th July (Digital)
    Format: Vinyl/Digital
    Cat No: FR154/FRD154

Andre Lodemann has made some incredibly beautiful house music over the
course of the last couple of years and we’re very pleased to welcome him back to
Freerange with a follow up to his acclaimed 2010 release Still Dreaming. The
Berlin producer has had a string of high profile remixes over the last year including
those for Tracey Thorn, Omar, Phonique and Vakula to name a few. His Best
Works label goes from strength to strength releasing an eclectic mix of sounds but
with the common thread being a deep sense of musicality and forward looking
strategy. Here on his Riven Reminiscences EP we are treated to more sublime and
resplendent house which Andre has become synonymous with.

The title track initially comes on like some long lost Weather Report track
incorporating some heavy jazz-fusion vibes and Pastorius-style bass line. But don’t
let that put you off! What we have here is an epic, undulating production that puts
in a little extra depth and complexity without taking any of the impact away.
Things build perfectly until a piano stab and cross rhythm bassline enter, adding
further energy until finally, things peak with the sampled piano chords in the
breakdown which develops into a fuller harmonic progression.

Next up we have the second original track entitled Together. Again, this is classic
Lodemann, managing as always to inject a warmth, soul and musicality into his
productions for those really special moments on the dancefloor when the crowd is
ready to be taken way off the beaten track. You could say this is more like a
heartfelt ballad than deep house music so drop this one with caution if you don’t
want to see grown men reduced to tears on the dancefloor!

Finally, San Soda of FCL fame gives us his interpretation of Riven Reminiscences
going for a much more straight-up rolling house affair with plenty of drive and
    bouncing bass.
