But there where no looters there. The EDL weren't even in the area they lived in so they weren't protecting their own. They where told to go home instead they started throwing bottles at the police. Though I understand why you would like them, they are a pro Israeli anti Muslim organisation.

Yes you have the right to take pro active action in the environment you live in, the seeks and the muslims both managed to do it last week without starting a riot. But when you get on a bus drive a few hundred miles then start a fight where there is no fight you're not doing fuck all for the community. Its football hooligan mentality, the fight starts wherever they can draw the line. Liverpool hooligan's fight Everton hooligan's, but if its an International the both kick the shit out of the French. The the following week they are back at each other.
No the police lost control over parts of London over 4 nights. Unfortunately putting 16,000 police on the streets of London every night to cover events that happen once every 10 years is imposable even in a prosperous era.
