Unfortunately I think John Fox is simply playing Tebow now because he is obligated to. Since Josh McDaniel burned a 1st round pick on the Baby Jesus they just have to play him. My prediction is the Tebow at QB experiment will be over very quickly. He'll have to move to a TE/H-Back type position if he wants to stay in the league.
It's not just that florida...the frenzy and fervor over Tebow starts and ends with the fans. After all it was a group of fans who had that ridiculous billboard put up in Denver. I don't blame the local media there for going along with it. It's print media...they gotta sell papers somehow, right?
I think this is what happens when you have an athlete who...
a) looks the part of a golden boy
b) never stops reiterating and invoking the lord's name in his efforts
c) wins at a high level, in this case high-school and subsequently the D1 college football level
If Tebow didn't walk on water and constantly reference God in his athletic endeavors no one would give two shits about the guy. I just think it's sad that fans are SO desperate for a golden boy hero that they'll buy into anything including this player who has little to no chance of making it at his chosen position in the NFL. Not even God himself is going to be able to fix Tebow's 10 second delivery.
I certainly think his core fans i.e. Gator Nation plus the whole Christian athlete following that he has are still on his bandwagon.
As for Denver fans themselves I dunno. I know they've had a rough go of things ever since moving on from the days of Elway, Shanahan and company. I just think it's amazing how polarizing Tebow is. All I know is that I am hoping for the best for him, but man does he catch flak like no other athlete.
It reminds me of how fast my fellow Vikings fans went from hating Brett Farve prior to 2009. Then 2009 rolls around and we want to build a statue with which to worship #4. A year later Brett was back to being hated by Vikings fans far and wide.
I know we should never feel bad for these very well paid athletes, but sometimes I wish fans would just have a bit more conviction in their support.
Bye week in Minnesota...at least I know that the Vikings won't lose another game this weekend.
I am hoping to catch the Steelers Ravens game on Sunday night. Not sure what's being aired during the day. Hopefully their will be a decent matchup or two.
