The epic and enigmatic TILT return to the Courtyard for a very rare and special one off performance that is not to be missed. A true live experience encompassing the exceptional sounds and talents of John Graham, Mick Park, Nic Britton (legendary TILT engineer) and Kev McGee on drums and percussion. Expect one or two surprises and appearances as the band recreate the magic of former TILT classics that became synonymous with Perfecto, Cream and the Courtyard.
Tilt originally began with Mick Parks and Mick Wilson, in Coventry, England. The focal point in the early days was a club called Eclipse; the first club in the UK to get a late licence and successfully move the rave indoors into the club context that we know today. They became resident djs and it was here that they met Sasha, who proved to be a great inspiration for the boys and gave them the confidence to go on and produce their own material. Their work as a duo (Parks and Wilson) has a long and successful history as both DJs and music producers. .... They met John Graham (Quivver), another like-minded Coventrian and set up a band called Tilt in 1993 as a production outfit
Tilt were signed up by Paul Oakenfold, for his Perfecto label, and in 1996 they had their first UK top 40 hit with 'I Dream'. This was just the start, and more big tracks followed including 'My Spirit' and 'Places'. The boys soon found that their infectious form of progressive/trance music was not only popular with radio, but was being featured on a whole range of television programmes, from soap operas to international football matches and hit TV dramas such as Queer As Folk and Six Feet Under.
After leaving Perfecto, Tilt signed to Red Jerry's brilliant Hooj Choons label, and more hit singles followed. 'Invisible' (featuring the vocal talents of Dom Atkins AKA Grace) was a top twenty hit, and 'Rendezvous' and 'The Seduction Of Orpheus' (a favourite of Danny Tenaglia) were massively influential tracks, which moved the progressive/trance-dominated house scene into previously uncharted, darker territory. Tilt had become a major force in the international dance music revolution with their tribal drums, booming bass-lines and unforgettable melodies, they blurred the boundaries between house and trance, and supplied millions of dance music lovers worldwide with the soundtrack to their weekend. Tilt to date have had seven UK hit singles, and are now registered to the official Chart Encyclopedia in the UK.
Quivver:
Quivver tunes are a part of every top DJ's box and have been for some time now, from -the early days of Saxy Lady and Twist & Shout right up to the monstrous She Does, Quivver has been, and continues to be, one of dance music's main attractions.
Quivver was originally signed to A&M Records, where, along with writing partner Neil Barry, they released 2 tracks (as mentioned above), both making huge dents on the dance-floors of the World and gathering a massive, ever growing following for Quivver along the way. The likes of Sasha, Oakenfold, Digweed and many, many more became fans and Quivver became a household name! During this period John was also recording under the name of Skanna and had a label of the same name where he released around ten tracks that reached the hearts (and record boxes) of people like Fabio and Grooverider and Doc Scott. The Skanna tunes were an outlet for John's darker side - drum and bass and deep beats - influenced by John's love of Hip Hop, Electro and all that went off in the breakbeat days of the 80's.
A shake up at A&M left Quivver free to move onto pastures new and John at this time split with his recording partner, but continued to work under the same name. Paul Oakenfold was first off the mark in the Quivver chase, already a huge fan and seeing this extreme talent free for the taking, Paul snapped up John and signed him to his own Perfecto label. John released tunes on Perfecto; DJ'd as part of their massive tours and continued to blossom until the demise of the label and their split with East West in 98. Later in 98 John signed up a deal with Virgin records and changed his name for recording to Stoneproof. The release of his first single Everything's Not You on Virgin came with much critical acclaim and huge support at club level with The Quivver Mix on the track being included on Northern Exposure, Resident - 2 Years of Oakenfold at Cream, Sasha's Global Underground and more!
John Graham was also one third of Tilt (along with Mick Park and Mick Wilson). Remixes have included Karen Ramirez Lies, Jeff Wayne's Eve of The War, Space Manoeuvres Stage One, Culture Club's Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and Time, and later on Libra Calling Your Name and Danny Tenaglia Do You Feel My Love.
Caught somewhere between a dance star and a rock star, John lends his wanton vocals to many tracks, leaving lyrical interpretation open to the listener. John's production style is uniquely suited to both solitary moments of reflection and the uplifting excitement of the dancefloor, setting exciting standards for the rest to follow; proving why he's one of the dance community's brightest attractions.
Mick Park:
Fresh from his epic headline set at the first Cream Reunion in the Annexe, we are delighted to welcome Mick back by popular demand. Whether it be DJing or producing, Mick Park has been an extremely influencial part of Cream's history. As half of Parks & Wilson he has graced the turntables in Nation on numerous occasions, whilst producing a plethora of Cream Classics under his 'Tilt' & 'Killahurtz' guises. The unique progressive sound was immediately recognised by Paul Oakenfold who signed Tilt to Perfecto Records. Tracks such as 'I Dream', 'Rendezous' & 'Butterfly' became instant Annexe & Courtyard Classics, as well as their Courtyard inspired rework of Robert Miles' 'Children', signed to Deconstruction. A host of other classic releases on Hooj Choons & Stress has ensured Mick to be a major player in the Progressive House & Trance scene.
Man With No Name:
Man With No Name aka M.W.N.N., or Martin Freeland is one of very defining artists in the goa/ psy trance genre having a unique sound of heavy bass lines, raw grooves and explicit melody lines.
Originally a techno producer, Martins long and illustrious career began way back in 1988 when he appeared with several tracks on the collection Urban Acid (released by, a sub-label of Polydor, Urban) that sold over 65.000 copies.
In the early 90s his sound veered further towards trance and in 1996 released his first full-length album Moment of Truth, on the early trance label Concept in Dance, including several goa trance and melodic trance tracks, such as Sugar Rush which also was released as an EP, including the heavy goa anthem Teleport, which instantly became a classic.
Two years later in 1998, Martin released his second album Earth Moving the Sun on Paul Oakenfolds label Perfecto (East West). The mix of heavy goa trance and melodic trance tracks was still there, but the sound had become less techno influenced, more melodic based and experimental towards house.
Two EPs was released from this album, both melodic trance tracks; The First Day (Horizon) with vocals from Mark Gardener and Vavoom! including house remixes by De Niro.
An in demand remixer, Martins special touch reenergised such classics as Greece 2000 and Octopus by Art Of Trance.
In 2000 the third album Teleportation was released on Dragonfly Records, including old favourites Teleport, Sly-Ed, Lunar Cycle and Neuro Tunnel
Martin continues to headline gigs and festivals across Europe and beyond, still pushing the boundaries of a genre that he has always been at the forefront of. This promises to be a special return to the Courtyard for a one off live set of Martins finest work.
Steve Parry:
Following on from his outstanding set in the Main Room we welcome back local stalwart Steve Parry to demonstrate his silky skills and musical prowess in rocking the Cream faithful from the off.
Samuel Lamont:
Completing the lineup will be resident and promoter Samuel Lamont. Heavily influenced from Oakenfold and Sasha this promises to be a special homage to the Courtyard.
