Distortion aka James Myatt is what you can call an old-school-head. Living close to the windy city of Chicago, his music breaths the House-vibes of his hometown and the Techno-soul of Detroit. James works as a truck driver during the summer and runs a snowplow company in the wintertime. This means he is on the road a lot, where he catches pure American atmosphere and spirit day-by-day, what can definitely be heard in his music.
With the “Battle Your Head EP” James delivers his first full EP to Connaisseur after his successful remix for Estroe’s classic “Driven” for our 5th anniversary compilation CINQ earlier this year.
He delivers 4 classy cuts between alluring and rough vibes, with which he proves his outstanding feeling for an authentic Chicago and Detroit sound.

The fourth instalment of THE JAM FILES comes with two cutting-edge remixes and a debut track. Long time friend Martin Buttrich put his hands on Matty Heilbronn's "Funky Shit". Keep an eye on your EQs or this pusher will turn your subs to zero! One of Mousse T.'s early days tracks gets remixed by Butch. He transforms this almost 15 year-old classic into a completely new afrocentric tech houser with a dope bassline. Well done and sure to work perfect. Finally Peppermint Jams inhouse promoter Peavey makes his first steps into the game. "Eshu" fuses african Massai chants with his very own vision of deeper house vibes. He's already back in the studio working on his first remix and next single/EP.

From the very beginning it was planned that Hannover imprint Peppermint Jam would remain an independently-distributed label as German distributors, at that time, were more focused on techno and trance, leaving vocal house largely untouched. The turning point, however, was the year 1996 – and Peppermint Jam’s first visit to the Winter Music Conference in Miami (an important international trade fair for electronic music). This milestone in the company’s history resulted in license enquiries from labels such as MAW as well as international collaborations. After their first self-produced releases, the label signed Ruffneck and “Everybody be Somebody” became their first real hit, soon followed by Boris Dlugosch’s “Keep Pushin” and “Hold Your Head Up High” (both featuring Inaya Day).

This timeless genre defining deep house classic was born when Robert Owens sang the title phrase down the phone to his friend David Morales with whom he had recently argued.
A Def Mix production, released in 1991 on RCA and Perfecto with Satoshi Tomiie on keyboards, David Morales on Production/Engineer/Arrangement/Drums & Percussion, with Robert Owens (a figure most associated with the late-'80s golden era of Chicago house) on vocals, and written by all three, I'll Be Your Friend is a classic - Owens also appeared on Satoshi Tomiie & Frankie Knuckles 'Tears' and now runs a Christian bookstore.
Twilo Version
This is also a track that is close to Diggers' heart after gracing that legendary Twilo phazon system, and is the opening track form Transitions 262 (Live at Twilo) after a Prince Quick Mix mashup appeared in 2001 fusing the vocal as an acapella with a dub of Danny Tenaglia's 1997 Elements.
2011 Versions
Chicago house legend Robert Owens has undergone something of a career renaissance in 2011, with the London-based artist securing a load of DJ bookings around the UK capital.
Now a new generation of producers have latched onto the spiritual and soothing sound. Firstly his 1991 track "I'll Be Your Friend" was dusted off and given a 2011 re-rub by Jamie Jones, Soul Clap & Gadi Mizrahi and Inxec & Matt Tolfrey. It's the stripped back remix from the latter pairing that impresses most, with the combination of ethereal synths and Owen's unmistakable voice carrying a slow, druggy after-party vibe. Back in 1991, Robert Owens was the name on everyone’s lips. From New York clubs and warehouse mash-ups to London underground parties and acid raves; everyone looked up to Robert as the man responsible for one of the most seminal House records of all time.
Now thanks to 1trax the release has been exhumed, re-mastered, and is available to download digitally for the first time on the very year of its 20th Anniversary. Going head-to-head with one of the most prolific House producers of all time, the first package released in May saw remixes from producer prodigies of the now – Jamie Jones, Soul Clap, Gadi Mizrahi (one-half of wolf + lamb), Matt Tolfrey & Inxec.
Continuing along these lines, part 2 of the package features more fresh slants on Robert’s original from Italian duo DZeta N’ Basile, and from Claire Ripley. Both mixes are already enjoying repeated radio plays ahead of the Summer release, with major DJ support already commonplace across the world.
I’ll Be Your Friend features the sultry vocals of Robert Owens, wildly regarded as the voice of house music. The track promptly caught the attention of every key DJ/Producer of our time and has remained one of House Music’s most influential pieces compositions. Integral to the developing house scene in the mid-Eighties, Robert gained notoriety by singing on a number of underground club tracks. Famed for breathing life and soul into house music, Robert has added his own distinct dimension to a number of tracks of late including ‘Silence’ on 1trax and ‘Greater Love’ on MN2S.

South East London Born Barcelona-based Paul Loraine [Soma | Four:Twenty] launched his Loco night in Bristol (2005) hosting Peace Division, Carl Craig, Radio Slave, Jay Haze, Quivver, Terry Francis, Tim Green, Funk D’Void, Slam, Silicone Soul, King Unique, Robert Babicz. In 2008 he began producing. “I’m a sucker for a good groove,” explains Paul, “and my music is very percussive. I really concentrate hard on getting the drums to do all the work. I’m not one of these producers that can sit in the studio and write track after track with no substance or ideas. I try to write music that people can have a real connection with and is personal in some way.”
The stage is now perfectly set for Paul to reach new heights and some of his finest work is due for release soon. Remixes for James Holden & Ashley Casselle, Robert Owens and Silicone Soul have all been completed alongside collaborations with Funk D’Void, Richard Seeley and Robert Cashin.

[Guerilla Sounds] The Pushamann’s latest release on N.o.N Music boosts the recent launch of the label…
The latest release to come out of the newly N.o.N Music label is a record by N.o.N top dog, The Pushamann. His release, “Rhyme or Reason” is one that will surely launch the label onto the scene, as whilst the original makes an impact, it is also followed by some interesting remixes from Mark Chambers, Lewis Ryder and Mitch Davis.
“Rhyme or Reason” has a very deep mysterious sound to it, mainly because of the dark sounding bass line and the vocal cuts that The Pushamann has constructed the track with. The bass and beat give the track some steady movement whilst it travels through a mysterious cave of vocal cuts. It’s when the full vocal plays out that the track reaches it’s most effective. Although the vocals to add an essence of mystery to the track that also prevent it from being sinister. Has to be said that this is class release from The Pushamann.
Mitch Davis on the other hand, creates something more along the lines of an old Delon & Dalcon or Boxer Recordings style with its upbeat march. The crunchy marching bass carries the track, whilst strong electric synth stabs open up the space around it. The arrangement of the vocals work really well with this deep electro infused remix. There‘s also a subtle, dark acid style breakdown further into the track that just blends perfectly back into the vibe of things. Mitch Davis has really nailed this mix as the sounds and vibe of it just seems to stand its ground.
N.o.N MUSIC – Label Profile
Presenting the brain child of two like-minded producers, newly founded label N.o.N. Music brings forth The Pushamann and Daniel Button with a no N.o.N.sense approach to their releases. Launching with a promise of “real House sounds for real House heads”
Inspiration for the label was born from a passion for party promotion between the two aspiring producers and Terry Francis, publicising a series of gigs at intimatve venues across the capital. With a gracious nod to Chicago, Detroit and London; N.o.N. Music’s releases arrive with an already established promise of quality.

Henry Saiz is the creator of a style that is a combination of his love for all things electronic with a deep passion for art. His music, as well as his work as a sound designer for film and TV has always been marked as forward thinking in approach and groundbreaking upon delivery. Henry's sound refuses to fall into a singular category, he takes in influence on many different levels and incorporates this into his live and DJ sets by forging a perfect balance of Electronica, Disco, House and Techno.
Henry's first productions were released through the highly regarded Global Underground and Paradigm Musik imprints. These releases were instantly noticed by house giant John Digweed, which led to creating one of the biggest tracks of 2009, which was also named as Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune. Released on Bedrock, Henry's remix of Guy J’s “Lamur” was regarded by critics and DJ’s alike as “the track of the year”. Following the success of this remix, yet another giant label; Renaissance commissioned the release of “Artificial Paradises EP” and “Madre Noche EP” in 2009 and “The Rider EP” in 2010.
Not a man to be content with such success, Henry whilst producing some of the biggest tracks around has also simultaneously been developing his live show. Using a combination of the Akai APC-40 controlling Ableton Live, Access Virus TI Synth and an iPod Touch, Henry has complete control over his meticulously created and fully original edits, loops and tracks. The integration of these techniques into his highly acclaimed podcast “The Labyrinth” and both live and DJ environments has allowed Henry to show his true potential in building sets that strike a chord with audiences. His rising reputation has earned Henry the honour of being asked to produce Balance Music’s 019 compilation, due for release in June 2011. Following on from the likes of Timo Maas, Joris Voorn, Will Saul and Agoria, Henrys addition to this world-renowned mix series has more than lived up to expectations and has set a new benchmark in depth and quality.
Whilst being a producer, DJ and live performer is paramount to Henry, another element close to his heart is to find and develop new talent. Henry started his own label, Natura Sonoris (Nature Of Sound) in 2008 and it has become a platform for not only his own productions but also for that of artists such as Damabiah, Sistema, Cora Novoa, Soundexile, 7thKey, Dosem and Van Hai to name but a few. The focus of the label is to connect electronic music with art and life. This is reflected in all aspects of each release from the music itself down to the artwork, a formula that has been received extremely well and now has a big following worldwide.
07. Patrick Chardronnet - Pleasant Day [Audiomatique Recordings | AM45]
One of the leading figures in the modern house and techno movement, Patrick Chardronnet returns to Audiomatique with another surefire weapon for the summer.
'Pleasant Day' is perfect for the open air season, yet contrary to what its title suggests, it’s a dark, funky and freaky tune that carries many trademarks of the Audiomatique sound. Liquid synths and acidic bass fused with modern drums are all precision engineered to the super high quality level you'd expect from Chardronnet.
The lush and divinely deep 'Aim' takes us further into the sound capabilities of this seasoned studio hand. Fluttering, tropical moods soar through colourful layers of dubbed synth textures and strong, surging bass.
A bonus track is included in the shape of 'Twist' - a strongly atmospheric, arpeggio led jam that has early morning vibes all over its carefully crafted bass heavy tones.

"Pleasant Day" sounds a little reminiscent of "Phonix," a Patrick Chardronnet and Afrilounge production from '05. A head-bobbing low-end is shadowed by a bleepier melody, while sinister male vocals whisper their way in and out of the mix. This immediate similarity foreshadows the biggest problem with the record; it sounds quite dated. There are certain styles of music which will endure endless simulacra, but I'm not convinced this is one of them. And disregarding trends, Chardronnet is still repeating himself after five years. That said, "Pleasant Day" is more "big room" than its predecessors; a dramatic pad takes hold of the last quarter, lifting the mood considerably. [RA Review]
