Guy Gerber’s Supplement Facts imprint continues to drop the bombs, this time courtesy of Brooklyn-based duo No Regular Play, with their searing package ‘Fall Up To The Sky’ featuring the molten vocals of Maya Hatch and a blinding remix from Life and Death.

The EP came about after label head Guy Gerber heard a recording of an NRP live set at an after party and was struck by one particular synth line, so much so that he contacted the pair shortly after to discuss a release. A prevailing musical connection on both sides made Supplement Facts the natural destination for ‘Lookin’ - a track four years in the making. Having been a staple of the NRP live set through multiple reincarnations, the final version (built around the original synth line) was made especially for Supplement Facts and now features the vocals of Nick’s cousin, Maya Hatch, who delivers the perfect female response to Greg’s original musings.

In ‘Fall Up To The Sky’, Maya’s luscious voice infiltrates deep alongside warm gliding synth pads and the techy drive of the kicks craft a tight swinging groove. ‘Lookin’ carries the trademark NRP lilt that’s laid back and bumping in equal measure. Idiosyncratic purrs, human and discoid, dapple the kicking groove and Greg’s sultry sleaze is the perfect playmate for the moody, strutting bassline. When the oscillating synth finally impacts it’s a streak of rave gold in the track’s armour.

Life and Death turn in a stunning rework of ‘Lookin’ in which Greg’s vocal is toned down to a melancholy murmur and the emotive chords sweep over the bouncing bassline and crisp percussive beats. Shrouded in mystery and the subject of much acclaim in electronic music circles, the band and label Life and Death is the creative project that keeps on giving, responsible for some of 2011’s most innovative music.
Greg Paulus and Nick DeBryn met in Minnesota aged 8 and have been bonded by a mutual study and appreciation for a wide spectrum of sounds ever since.

Inaugurated at the legendary Marcy Hotel, home to the Wolf + Lamb family, a melting pot of musical influences ultimately boiled down to No Regular Play. The NRP evolution continues with the near completion of an orchestra piece for the Minnesota Orchestra and the duo are preparing to release their debut album

Ibiza Voice Review [7.5/10]

Guy Gerber's Supplement Facts has long maintained a reputation for the quirky, the off-kilter and the downright strange. How apt then, that the most-recent proponents to step up to the label plate are Brooklyn duo No Regular Play, who offer up another intriguing instalment of left-field, “slo-mo” house of the type they've built a career on. Well at least that's what happens on the title track, “Fall up to the Sky”, their collaboration with Maya Hatch - the cousin incidentally, of NRP's Nick deBruyn.
So yes, it'd be easy to scrutinise the choice of vocalist, but deBruyn's choice makes for an inspired one, as Hatch's lyrical contribution sounds luscious, sultry and assured alongside the track's popping synths, brash kicks and pitched down tones.

The end result is a groovy, chilled-out number, that like so much of NRP's work (and that of their oft-associated compatriot Nicolaas Jaar) make it ripe for remixing. The more up-tempo “Lookin” we're told, has been four years in the making; a continuous melding of minds between Paulus, deBruyn and Gerber, with the latter gaining a fascination some year's back with the track's now finely-tuned synth line. A very different beast than “Fall up to the Sky”; “Lookin”, with its grinding loops and rhyming vocal, is a unique gem, sculpted more obviously with the dance floor in mind.

Life and Death then offer up a remix of “Lookin” that, (in keeping with their mysterious, unidentifiable demeanour), is draped in gothic overtones; with a barrage of drums and a more melancholic vocal playing out over its emotional chords in a manner reminiscent of say, Art Department or Tale of Us. While 2011 has proved a relatively quiet year thus far for Supplement Facts, just like the story behind “Lookin”, good things do indeed come to those wait.

Chilean-born, Berlin based Dinky needs no introduction (but here's one anyway...), DJing and producing for over a decade, releasing some serious game-changers on labels Cocoon (the classic ‘Acid In My Fridge’ recently reworked by the Visionquest boys), Wagon Repair, Crosstown Rebels and most recently Ostgut Ton, Dinky also runs her own imprint, Horizontal, specialising in her distinct brand of organic tech-house.

Comprising three original cuts, the ‘Time To Lose It EP’ marks a re-entry into the limelight for Dinky who has, for over a decade, carved a sound encompassing experimental strains of techno, soulful minimal and ambient pop. Releasing some serious game-changers on labels Cocoon (the ubiquitous ‘Acid In My Fridge’ recently reworked by the Visionquest boys), Wagon Repair (‘Anemik’ LP, one of RA’s albums of the year 2010), Crosstown Rebels (‘Get Lost 03’ mix CD) and most recently Osgut Ton, Dinky also runs her own imprint, Horizontal, specialising in her distinct brand of organic tech-house.

A-side ‘Teka’ flows with interwoven percussive grooves, effortlessly smooth with a softly built momentum and looping vocal samples that echo, tumble and fall. The light kicks take it into minimal terrain while the whizzing synths give it that psychedelic rave factor. As with all Dinky tracks ‘Teka’ has a pure, enveloping quality that will no doubt grip the dancefloor.

‘This Is Your Heart’ presents a swirl of ambient waves and housey congas, spliced with shimmering percs and interjections of the sweetly melancholic voice repeating, “This Is Your Heart”. Never limiting herself to one style, Dinky always imbues her work with an element of fantasy as well as drive.

Another case in point is third and title track ‘Time To Lose It’. A voyage into languorous, trippy funk balanced by an absorbing folkloric hymn, it’s easy to get lost in the lush melodic, groove and spaced out beats. Creating three entirely different moods across this trio of tracks is Dinky showcasing her world-class ability to seize the principals of dance music and infuse them with her vital heart and soul.

Guy Gerber interview on the 11:11 project

"I almost finished my album with P Diddy under our project name 11.11 and also I have compiled my favourite music pieces from my label Supplement Facts. I have made a few tracks with friends like Deniz Kurtel and Tale of Us and Chaim that are supposed to come out this year. Our project is called 11.11 and it’s about a date when a mystical gate is open and two worlds collide. It’s the beginning of the carnival. It’s the beginning of the end or the start of another dimension.

This project started after Diddy invited me to New York after apparently being influenced by my first album “Late Bloomers” while he was working on his album “Last Train To Paris”. He wanted me to make a remixes album to LTTP but I have chosen to reconstruct all the songs in a different way and created a whole new world of drum machines and high note bass guitars – he really liked it and said why don’t we make a new album together. So in the last two years I’ve been flying to New York and Los Angeles and have also been recording in Tel Aviv what I believe is the future of electronic pop.

We have three more songs to finish and we started a mini project with Juanita Bell from the Howling Bells. We want to make sure we fulfil the ambitious nature of this project. The first single is being mastered as we speak. It’s called ‘Tourist Trap’ and has remixes from Jamie Jones, Visionquest, Soul Clap, Renaissance Man and David K on items. London resident Ross Evana already excelled as DJ at Pacha NYC, at Ministry of Sound London or in the We Love Space series in Ibiza, and has been ranked # 12 in the Beatport House charts with "Ouija Board". His track "Thrilla in Manila" first takes its time to build up before it sets a tremendously powerful exclamation mark on the dancefloor with its tropical-hypnotic percussions.

Thugfucker aka Greg Oreck & Holmar Filipsson [NYC / Rome / Reykjavik] are an Icelandic golden child in America and New York native now residing in Italy, both Holmar and Greg have both dedicated themselves to the debaucherous worship of all good things that can happen in a dark crowded room with good lighting.

Bringing together a wide variety of influences from house to minimal and disco to techno, first and foremost these guys bring the party to the party. Releases on seminal labels Life and Death, Moodmusic, Music For Freaks, Brique Rouge, Global Underground and their own label, Thugfucker Recordings are proof that there's more to them than just a couple of pretty faces.

Boys No Lyrics adapted from Leonard Cohen's 'Avalanche'. Once again, Erol Alkan and Boys Noize have teamed up, for what has become a stunning re-imagining of last years smash single ‘Avalanche’.. Determined to avoid a taking an obvious route, the pair originally intended to commission a spoken word interpretation- the natural choice was the mellifluous Jarvis Cocker.

Throwing his creative muscle behind the project, it was Jarvis’s inspired choice for him to recite the seminal lyrics of Leonard Cohen’s song of the same name… A handwritten letter and CDR were dispatched to Mr Cohen, who very quickly gave his full and delighted support to the project. All that was left was for Jarvis to add his distinctive twist to the title, in the form of ‘Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)’ despite this unlikely paring of minds the finished work sees the sonorous tones of Mr Cocker riding the megalithic slabs of fizzing synthesis and piston-ing drums with aplomb to mesmeric effect.

On the remix tip the duo enlist the true underground maestro himself Ewan Pearson, who supplies not one, but two different flavours of rerub – the ‘Hall Of The Mountain King Remix’ mix takes the original on a warped acid redux via Chicago, while the ‘Deeper Underground Re-Version’ reroutes proceedings to dubbed out Berlin basement after hours to stunning effect. Not to be out done, hot new talent Canblaster interprets the original as a low-slung bleeptastic old-school electro workout, recalling the early works of Warp, that rounds the package off in glorious style. Wiretappeur is a production partnership between Florian Kruse, Nils Nurnberg and Stelios Vassiloudis (who is currently putting the finishing touches to his debut artist album for Bedrock). Their My Real Name Is track and remix of Dirty Mongrel were standout tracks on the first instalment of John Digweed's Structures series; while their two versions of Too Much Space on the Bedrock 12 compilation showed their highly original and deep understanding of the power of melody. They were also the perfect candidates to remix John Digweed & Nick Muir's Bilder (Bilder01). Now they return to Bedrock with the superb Everybody Loves Ice Cream EP.

The title track is pure, fresh and innovative deep house, which oozes melodic beauty and summer vibes. Wiretappeur’s productions have already earned them heartfelt praise and support from many of their peers as well as a wide variety of the industry's top DJs, including Steve Bug, Luciano and Josh Wink, and Everybody Loves Ice Cream is sure to follow suit. Germany’s Vincenzo is one of the stars of the Hamburg club scene. His superb To Hume EP was released on Bedrock back in April 2011 to great critical acclaim. Originally spotted and guided by Steve Bug, he released his debut LP on the stylish Dessous label and is now an internationally respected producer.
