Oh wait the people who actually went to the site and actually physically examined evidence must be wrong...Powerpoint and CBS news clippings of Dan Rather saying the word dynamite > science.

My question really is why does this have such an allure to people? Throw all IQ points out the door to believe in something just because you want it to be true?

This topic has been kicked to death already, I'll stop chiming in...but I'd check out the official report which doesn't use youtube clips and random news clips out of context as it's evidence base.

You may want to listen to this interview with Ilan Shrira from this month, a social psychologist at the University of Florida in Gainsville & author of the paper “Paranoia, 9/11 and the roots of conspiracy theories,” published in Psychology Today...

The interview is from Southern California Public Radio.

Lots of different callers call in and make some pretty good points, I hope everyone can listen.

So here's another one of your tin foil nuttas. Remember they all have engineering degrees, similar qualifications and affiliations.

Well we are going in circles, and will so for another 10 years. So till then. Lets keep believing, and I'll keep polishing my hats.

But question is why how can you believe in NIST reports?

This is a good looking paper, but the couple page's points are laughable.

                    1] From section 1: WTC7 Collapse Issue:

FEMA analyzed the remarkable collapse of WTC building
7, the 47-story skyscraper that, even though it was not hit
by a plane, collapsed about seven hours after the second
Tower collapse. We certainly agree that FEMA’s best firebased
hypothesis “has only a low probability of occurrence.”
NIST’s final report on WTC 7 has been long delayed and is
eagerly awaited [3]. Apparently it is difficult to fully explain
the complete and rapid collapse of WTC 7 with a fire-based
                    hypothesis alone.

Note the date on this. 2008. The WTC7 NIST investigation in fact came out after this paper, like they state, they are waiting for the report. So smartass remarks really don't have any relevant point.

                    2] from Withstanding Jet Impact:

"Our analysis indicated the biggest problem would
be the fact that all the fuel (from the airplane)
would dump into the building. There would be a
horrendous fire. A lot of people would be killed,"
he said. "The building structure would still be
                    there."

Skilling - a recognized expert in tall buildings -
doesn't think a single 200-pound car bomb would
topple or do major structural damage to a Trade
Center tower. The supporting columns are closely
spaced and even if several were disabled, the others
                    would carry the load.

…Although Skilling is not an explosives expert,
he says there are people who do know enough
about building demolition to bring a structure like
                    the Trade Center down.

"I would imagine that if you took the top expert in
that type of work and gave him the assignment of
bringing these buildings down with explosives, I
would bet that he could do it." [6]
That citation is from a short Seattle Times newspaper article from 1993!

Although Skilling is not an explosives expert, he says there are people who do know enough about building demolition to bring a structure like the Trade Center down.

"I would imagine that if you took the top expert in that type of work and gave him the assignment of bringing these buildings down with explosives, I would bet that he could do it."
Thats his entire scientific statement right there.

Comon guys...you can't really fall for an off the cuff quote like this as fact can you? Oh wait.

I agree those points are comments rather than proven theories but there are another 11.

As I said I'm not running around claiming it was government cover up where Bush did this and Bush did that.
All I was sceptical about was the actual structural failure of the towers nothing more. And it's enlightening to see you may have a valid point. Yes I may have some further reading to do, but until then I still sit on the fence.

Cool...honestly I would check out the FAQ page from the NIST site above. It has very good technical details on a lot of the so called theories and their conclusions about them if you want to read more.

It was a world first? Have you ever seen a 110 story building get hit by a half a million pound plane and spew thousands of pounds of jet fuel all over a building before that?

Also in before any nonsense about a plane hitting the empire state building. the two are in no way physically comparable.

There's that, but from what you learn about fire safety, structural adequacy, the general strength of steel, concrete and composite materials, blah blah blah...You think 1 aeroplane cannot do this, surely not. Its designed to withstand magnitude earthquakes, 1 plane?
