Anybody try these out yet? It says it has to be encoded on the fly when you go to purchase, so it takes time. Having metadata on the files would be very very nice.

Re: Beatport now offering AIFF
I tried out my latest purchase using the AIFF option. It didn't seem any slower compared to WAV despite the on-the-fly transcoding done by beatport (this is what they mentioned in their press release).
AIFF is a non-compressed audio file like WAV, so I don't believe there is any sound quality difference between them. Yes, the meta-data is like an ID3 tag. It can hold all types of information about the file, as well as album cover art.
It's great to have this stuff on the files.Comment

Re: Beatport now offering AIFF
WAV & AIFF are basically the same thing, only WAV is for MS Windows while AIFF is Apple's version of WAV. Besides that, AIFF files are slightly superior because they can hold some tag data and artwork, where WAV files cannot hold any tags or art.
I have been purchasing AIFF files from Beatport since they started offering them. There has been no noticable delay for me, and the tags/artwork are a timesaver. I was previously having to tag and add artwork manually in Rekordbox.Comment

Re: Beatport now offering AIFF
^^ You have a point there on the tag thing. Plus that the AIFF files can also be played by CDJ-2000 (as well as many popular players under microsoft windows).Comment
