Release Notes:
01. Stelios Vassiloudis & Sasse - The Z (Steve Bug Remix) [Bedrock Records | Bedsvs1]
Artist // Stelios Vassiloudis & Sasse
Title // The Z
Following the excellent singles from Maxime Dangles, Alan Fitzpatrick and Wiretappeur, Bedrock keep up the pressure with a superb collaboration between Stelios Vassiloudis & Sasse …
1. Original Mix 09:54
2. Steve Bug Remix 08:24
3. Simon Garcia Remix 07:34
‘The Z’ is the first single to be taken from Stelios Vassiloudis’ (aka Stel) forthcoming debut album for Bedrock and is yet another release from the label that should not be missed.
The original version of ‘The Z’ is a sophisticated, subtle, hip wiggling, percussion led beauty that builds in intensity, throbs and ebbs and flows with supreme ease.
Germany’s Steve Bug toughens and tightens up the bottom-end, adding some superb handclaps and turning up the pressure to create a hissing intro build, before adding some stunning detuned elements into his interpretation.
Finally, Spain’s Simon Garcia moves away from the percussion-led attitude of the previous versions, creating a more techno inspired remix, full of towering hypnotic synths and hissing hi-hats. ‘The Z’ is undoubtedly a masterful creation and yet another superb package from Bedrock.
You may have already heard Stel on Bedrock recently in his Wiretappeur guise (his collaboration with Florian Kruse and Nils Nurnberg) with the much loved ‘Everybody Loves Ice Cream EP’. Wiretappeur releases regularly hit the Top 5 of the Beatport charts and their deep house vibes and warm sounds have been firm favourites of many acclaimed DJ's.
Working so closely with Bedrock has resulted in Stel signing an album deal with the label (scheduled for release in late October/early November). Along with his solo productions, the album also includes collaborations with some key artists and guest vocalists. Presented over two discs, the album commences with a beautiful cinematic soundscape on CD1 whereas CD2 allows Stel to showcase his club sound, which develops from a deep house grooves right through to a techier vibe. Both discs are exquisitely mixed, with each track immersing itself into the next and are set to become a critically acclaimed debut album from this very talented artist.
Stel is a musician, producer and DJ who has released music under various monikers and aliases over the last 5 years, racking up an impressive discography with, for example, releases on Bedrock, Moodmusic, Fresh Meat and Dieb Audio. His in demand production skills have also garnered numerous remix opportunities for a wide range of artists such as: John Digweed, King Roc, Sasse, Sander Kleinenberg and Shlomi Aber, among others. Some of his most vocal DJ supporters over the years have been luminaries like: Sasha, Josh Wink, Laurent Garnier, Satoshi Tomiie and Stephan Bodzin. As a DJ, Stelios has travelled all over the planet playing his particular brand of deep house and techno to enthusiastic crowds in locations as diverse and intriguing as Brazil, China, Colombia, Russia and Japan among many, many others.
For this Bedrock single release, Stel has collaborated with Sasse (aka Klas Lindblad) from Finland, whose first releases came out on Sähkö/Puu as Freestyle Man and are considered a milestone in the Scandinavian house sound with the original 12-inches still very much sought after collectors items. In 1996 he started the highly respected Moodmusic label, which was followed by the birth of Sunday Music, a musical platform for Sasse and Henrik Schwarz to release their productions. Having built his beloved BlackHead Studios in Berlin (2005) with companions Ewan Pearson and Filippo "Naughty" Moscatello, he recorded his debut artist album (‘Made Within The Upper Stair Of Heaven’ on Moodmusic), which was followed by the landmark ‘Toinen’ (2008 album. Sasse is a DJ/producer of the highest order and his superb ‘The Z’ collaboration with Stel on Bedrock is set to raise his profile even further.

02. Nick Curly - Green Baize (Sun City EP) [Cocoon Recordings | COR12"089]
Label: Cocoon Recordings
Artist: Nick Curly
Title: Sun City
A1: Sun City
A2: Green Baize
B1: Libero
Cat No.: COR12089
Format: 12” Vinyl & Digital
Release Date: 26th of September 2011
It has not gone by unnoticed that, over the last five years, the Rhein Main area has become a decisive nucleus for innovative, powerful and modern House music.
One who is not entirely innocent of this is Mannheim-based DJ, producer and label head Nick Curly, whose imprints 8 Bit and Cécille Records are guarantees for standard-setting electronic dance music. Since his Cocoon debut "Pujante" (2009) and especially since the Party Animals Cocoon Ibiza Summer Mix 2010, he is a frequent and welcome guest at Cocoon's.
The three tracks of his "Sun City" EP are an impressive proof for Curly's maturation process: with a clear orientation towards the needs of the dancefloor, he exploits the sound potential of compressed House textures.
The title track captivates the listener with a subsonically perfected bass line and a discoid Hi-NRG modulation, forming a deluxe prime time anthem, whereas the dense and dub-referring deepness of "Green Baize" is enchanting just everybody, and, for the final, "Libero"'s rich percussive rhythms are strongly stressing the pelvic thrust. So, virtually nothing can go wrong with Nick's World Tour between Ibiza, Moscow, Manchester and NYC!

04. Viudez & Rainer - Scusas [Desolat Records | DESOLAT 018]
Javier Viudez and Rainer Serrat team up for 5 tracks that were some of the best kept secrets of Loco Dice and Desolat nights this summer. Desolat is proud to present “Dusk", an EP of stripped down grooves, tales of lost memories and other-worldiness of early morning hours.
A1. Scusas
A2. Rainer Nostalagia
B1. Nuevo Cedar
B2. Philips TV
Music always played a significant role in the life of Javier Viudez and Rainer Serrat and the quest for the music made them leave their hometowns Mallorca and Barcelona and move to London where they met each other and started sharing a studio in 2004. Constant flow of releases on labels like Serialism, Safari Electronique, Vinyl Club and serious club gigs followed.
Here Javier and Rainer kick off a new chapter and team up for 5 tracks, tales of lost memories and other-worldiness of early morning hours, that were some of the best kept secrets of Loco Dice sets this summer. The repetitive title track "Scusas" with its hypnotic, scale wandering staccato bassline, "Rainer Nostalgia" with its uplifting vocal shouts, the Timberlake infected, driving "Nuevo Cedar" or any other piece of this collection, these boys seem to have a golden hand for stripped down grooves.
DJ Feedback: “thanks been waiting on the bomb! Stacey Pullen I absolutely love love lot ethos song..support big time form me thanks again for the continued constancy of quality music! 06. Funk D'void - The Duke (Chymera Remix) [Outpost | OUTPOST009]
Label: Outpost
Release date: October 3rd, 2011
Tracklist:
1. The Duke
2. The Duke (Chymera remix)
3. Italoca (AGM & Quintrix Extended)
[Beats & Beyond Review]
Funk D'Void delivers a brand new EP on his own Outpost label with additional remixes coming from Chymera and AGM & Quintrix.
Funk D'Void is one of the most creative tech house producers around, and this EP confirms it (again). Opening track The Duke is a rough, filthy bass-driven belter armed with gnarly arps and synths that slowly builts towards an almost proggy break, and then plunges into a swampy groove perfect for peak time clubbing hours, while the Chymera remix is a more Detroit-ish version with entrancing bass loops and even proggier bits of percussion. Italoca, remixed by AGM & Quintrix, is a punchy little dancefloor rocker with a huge tech vibe and several explosive breaks. A standout track in any set when timed right.
Our verdict:
Funk D'Void and his companions drops a huge tech-fueled EP that perfectly displays the power of quality tech house. Recommended if you're a fan of the genre.
Rating: 8.0/10
07. John Tejada & Justin Maxwell - Domerocker (Roland M. Dill's Twangbang Remix) (Not That, But This EP) [Trapez | TRAPEZ 124]
RELEASE DATE // 2011-09-12
LABEL // Trapez
CATALOG # // TRAPEZ124
John Tejada and Justin Maxwell have been floating on top now for more than 10 years taking into account that an army of hungry music programmers have tried out every trick to motivate the masses and to become the new stars. John Tejada and Justin Maxwell can afford the luxury of not needing to do that, since they have written techno history.
Their education which started with hardware in the earlier techno days... gives them the privilege to accomplish also this release with machines only. So you will witness 3 raw and beautiful tracks that activate our minds.
Starting with “Domerocker” Tejada and Maxwell show us the world of warm sounding bassline, cool played chord sounds and grainy percussion... all melting together in what we call a soulful rocker. Time stands still and we think of our great smooth Trapez rockers from Jeff Samuel’s “F-Cote” over Donnacha Costello (aka Pleite) to Patrice Bäumel. Nod to today say hello to the past this funky groover puts a smile on our face.
“Our aimless dance” starts out with a bit of a Chez Damier feeling, super deep and super steady but has these tiny squeaking sequences pulling in, an electronic treat that both like to sneak in to their music for some extra funk. Doing as little as possible is their strength.
“The friction of today” is the so called bonus track. A hunting track that feels like a Morse code at first but than opens up towards melodic sounding “blooming“ synth pads that bring back memories of super cool vintage Detroit Techno. This is a track for the ones who know.
Roland M. Dill’s version of “Domerocker“ emphasises the “rocking“ aspect of guitars using here a slamming guitar chord as the alpha element leading us through the track into unknown territory.
It is certainly the world of Dill: austere, dedicated, with more compositional skill than most artists can handle. But the rock influence is new, as he himself said in discussions with others, that he liked the idea of touching that territory, so he took a chance and did it!
What we end up with could be a modern sort of Profan track. Straight and compressed as carbon, edgy and demanding and dry... this is a true Cologne track and therefore a true "Domerocker".
Release date: 12th September 2011
08. Cari Lekebusch & Joseph Capriati - Napoli 4 am [Drumcode | DRUMCODE 088]
ʻMissed Flightʼ seeʼs two of Drumcodeʼs most prominent artists, Cari Lekebusch and Joseph Capriati, team up to deliver a four track (2 vinyl, 4 digital) EP of essential modern techno.
While Lekebusch is a veteran, Joseph Capriati is part of the upsurge of new talent who have been grabbing increasingly intense attention over the past few years. The pairing of a prodigious new talent (somewhat new – Capriati has developed quite a catalogue for an artist in his early twenties) with someone of Lekebuschʼs standing is always an enticing prospect so ʻMissed Flightʼ looks set to turn heads from itʼs billing alone.
ʻMissed Flightʼ the track comes on like the perfect theme to the arrival of autumn. The tones are moody and the groove is linear, penetrating and eerily appointed. A Kubrick-esque breakdown of pulses and space is the only thing that breaks the momentum and adds a deliciously creepy characteristic to proceedings.
Track two, ʻNapoli 4AMʼ, balances out its darker tinged predecessor with a shuffling 909 funk and playful groove combination that pairs up with subtly delayed hits deep FM synth work brilliantly.
The release features two digital only cuts that come from Lekebusch alone, ʻEntanglementʼ and ʻRockturnerʼ, and they see the Swedish producers penchant for late night, woozy grooves that encapsulate the listener in varying ways. ʻEntanglementʼ does the job with a brooding vibe while ʻRockturnerʼ employs a more aggressive mood but both are fine examples of Lekebuschʼs ability to create enthralling techno.
Cari Lekebusch & Joseph Capriati ʻMissed Flightʼ is yet another essential Drumcode collaborative release and is released late-October on 12” and digital.

09. Richie G - Baum Vier Auf Zwei (Baum EP) [Haçienda Records | HAC 009]
Richie G’s 'Baum' EP featuring remixes by Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile and
Jesper Dahlback is released this coming Monday 19 September on Haçienda Records
Tracklisting:
1 Baum Vier Auf Zwei
2 Vorbendacht
3 Vorbendacht (Jesper Dahlback Remix)
4 Vorbendacht (Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile's From Manchester To Mansfield To Montreal Remix)
5 Vorbendacht (Hernan Cattaneo's & Soundexile's Into The Deep Remix)
Richie G’s first ever EP release 'Baum' - unleashed by Haçienda Records on Monday 19 September - is a double header of German and Underground Resistance style instrumental techno from a seventeen-year-old techno producer from Montreal, Canada whose musical ability belies his age. Richie has already remixed for Bedrock and Traum Recordings and his work is reminiscent of the very best of Sasha, Red Planet and DJ Rolando.
'Baum Vier Au Zwei' is a banging, full on cross between the styles of Berlin and German Techno which first attracted John Digweed’s attention through Haçienda Records when Richie was only 15 and is regarded as his signature tune. A progressive and unyielding monster of a track, it calls on the best of R&S Records, Ritchie Hawtin / Fuse and Villalobos’ style.
As befits Haçienda Records' first fully fledged techno release, some of the world's finest remixers and hugely respected DJs Hernan Cattaneo & Soundexile and Jesper Dahlback have contributed mixes of the second track on the EP 'Vorbendacht' in which the original takes its cues from the industrial styles of Aphex Twin and U-Ziq as a clever, twisted progressive techno track.
Hernan Cattaneo and Soundexile’s first remix 'From Manchester To Mansfield To Montreal' pays respects to the original spirit of The Haçienda with its rolling basses that sound like a modern version of Sasha’s early morning Renaissance set in Mansfield - a mix deliberately constructed by Hernan and Soundexile to sound like an oldschool vinyl from the vaults.
Their second 'Into The Deep' mix gives the tune a full, elemental and finely wrought work out which rolls across the diverse elements contained within the number.
And finally, Jesper Dahlback’s 'Stelvio Pass' remix proves a pan European climb across melodic and acidic styles and packs a fearful drop alongside a whole bunch of electro styled Giorgio Moroder influence tunings and tricks.
The cover art which reflects the stark techno style of the EP comes as designed as a booklet or double packed vinyl type sleeve with alternate outer and inner elements. Taking its inspiration from post war Berlin, Nicholas M Stevenson has delivered a greatly apposite design worthy of the release. For more on Nicholas M Stevenson, check heymrnick.com

Re: Transitions 369 - John Digweed with a guest mix by Santos
A bit bored with Digweed's mix until the last 15-20 mins.
He's been playing some banging tracks in the second halves of his Transitions recently. Fit right in with the dark prog vibe. Track @ 45 mins is pure darkness
Ah the 45-min track is Richie G. It was evil right up to the breakdown at 47 mins

Re: Transitions 369 - John Digweed with a guest mix by Santos
Here's Diggers' write-up from his fb :
"The show gets underway with Steve Bug’s percussive remix of The Z on Bedrock, here the Poker Flat boss strips down the original and gives things a seriously tough edge. In demand Mannheim-based DJ Producer Nick Curly takes time out from his Cécille imprint to deliver some vibrant tech house for Cocoon, before we sample the infectious groove of Jonas and the warm disco vibe that is Outer Space. Desolat let the cat out of the bag with Spanish duo Viudez & Rainer’s new EP which has been getting a great reaction for Loco Dice - hypnotic title track ‘Scusas’ with it’s infectious vocal and wandering staccato bass, has had far reaching DJ feedback from Stacey Pullen to Hernán Cattáneo.
Thomas Muller has become an important part of Bpitch Control’s exclusive roster, and his latest release showcases the distinctly cool and bumpy tech house vibe mirrored by his Live DJ sets. Next we pick up the pace with last weeks guest Funk D’Void and some taught techno. Chymera rounds off the blunt edges of the The Duke’s filthy bass-driven original, taking us into tech house territory. Roland M. Dill’s delicious version of ‘Domerocker’ fuses techno and indie sensibilities, with a sub bass drone and some wonderfully wonky soundscapes. This is definately one to get the main room moving.
I turn up the heat for the last two, so watch your speakers ! Firstly two of Drumcodeʼs most prominent artists, Cari Lekebusch and Joseph Capriati, team for some modern techno as the moody ʻNapoli 4AMʼ balances dark throbbing bass, playful 909 sounds and the subtle hint of an after hours groove. Montreal’s prodigious new talent Richie G closes with his maiden Baum EP (out on the legendary Haçienda Records). Richie takes you on a roller-coaster ride with an unyielding techno monster that evokes memories of R&S Records at its very best. At the tender age of just seventeen, and with remixes already for Bedrock & Traum, this guy has a big future ahead of him." [John Digweed]sigpicSimonR
