My Company's Union Went on Strike Today

So against everyone's desires but their own, all our hourly people represented by a union here in Atlanta decided to go on strike. Even the Union President encouraged them to think about what they were doing and reconsider because it was a bad idea and the things they want are ridiculous, but the union went on strike anyways. Now the lines to get into work are extremely long in the morning because these fucks picket across the entrance keepingcars from crossing when the lights are green, they are holding up signs devaluing salaried people and they are taunting us when we drive through the gates. All our productivity is at a near stop because the salaried people are trying to do their job plus the 2000+ jobs of union employees. All at a time when the gov't wants to cut defense budgets, big time.

I have lots of friends that are hourly (union) employees that are afraid to go into work because of the shit they get from mother fuckers that are striking, therefore my friends are losing money each day they don't go to work. The fucking selfishness I see being displayed makes me really sick. People are getting greedier and greedier. The sad thing is, when our union employees go on strike, our bathrooms are the cleanest they have ever been thanks to salaried people ACTUALLY cleaning them.

well that's my useless banter for the day. I'm just pissed off because I can't get any work done given the circumstances.

    Have a nice day

Really? So, they're allocating billions more dollars to fight in the Middle East and cutting defense budgets? What a bunch of crazy fucks.

It's definitely a pain in the ass when you're on your end of the situation. I've never been union, and to be honest I'm not really sure of my position, but there have been times when it's been necessary.

Good luck man, hope things get better.

there have been times it has been necessary, i completely agree... but now isn't one of those necessary times.

bush wants to cut the f-22 program from 350 aircraft down to 170 aircraft and wants to completely shut down c-130 production which has been the staple for cargo planes across the military for YEARS. a strike now isn't good. oh well...

      thank s for the support

Is Atlanta the only location that's on strike right now?

unions at their heart are a great thing, but tend to be fucking crooks in the end. look at NY local 3.(electrician) or the sign engineers(billboard). both groups have contracts that start at 45 /hour PLUS 20 in insurance costs per hour and this is for the dumb 21 yr old kid who goes and gets coffee for two hours...... when they picket, they kill their own, especially the younger people.

well, i thought that happened only in argentina :P

unions are the biggest corruption focus on earth, i'm not surprised they decided to go on strike anyway.

sorry Garrick, hope this gets back to normal soon.

this is nothing new. i'm sure we all remember the grocery store workers strike last year in california. that was a cluster fuck. why's a bag packer need to be making $25 / hour?

Garrick: Do you know what kinda raise or benefits they're striking for??

skahound: This country's deep in debt, so of course our Prez will keep giving money to "necissary" projects like defense (even though the money's going to all the wrong aspects of the war), but when real American businesses need help, there's no money available of course.

These people are horrible. Especially at a time like this when it's OBVIOUS defense companies like Lockheed etc. can't even make $$ anywhere near how they used to, demanding ridiculous raises is just plain dumb. Most of these people should thank each day they GET to work, let alone work for however much $$$ they want. And I wish these unions could realize that striking, and even preventing people JUST like them from working (even though many if not most workers usually AGREE with their cause) means the company loses money and value. lol... soooo dumb. Yeah, you guys cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars, so SURE, i'll give you a huge raise now. Most workers are replaceable, and f'in the company up only means layoffs are more likely

Well, I'm a longshorman out here in SF/Oakland and the Union is the best thing that's happened to us. If it weren't for the Union we'd still be working for minimum wages for one of the most dangerous jobs in the world!

When I was in the corporate world, I wasn't too keen on unions... I thought it was just a reason for people to do half ass work and get away with it. Now that I help represent a union, I'm damn glad to see what it does for me!

Granted there are people that abuse their privlidges, I'd say the majority benefit and still work hard.

Chonkey: they are asking for miniscule pay increases (like .3% i think) and health care coverage. keep in mind that our palmdale, ca and fort worth, tx sites have already negotiated the same deal with their unions that DID NOT include these miniscule gains. trust me when i say they get better than a majority of average union employees. our avg union employee makes $58k a year which is a shitload more than i make with a college degree! not to mention that health care prices are rising EVERYWHERE in the united states and not all companies can adequately raise their healthcare packages at a whim. not even the salaried employees are seeing the benefits the union wants. it just bugs me that the union doesn't realize the long-term impact of going on strike. when the gov't is talking defense budget cuts and they see the biggest company have a union strike, what does that say? just annoying.

I think unions are fucking stupid:

Employees to Union Rep: "We want more money!"
Union Rep to Company: "They want more money."
Company to Union Rep: "Tell them no."
Union Rep to Employees: "They said no."
Employees to Union Rep: "But we want more money!"
Union Rep to Company: "Seriously, they want more money."
Company to Union Rep: "Oh. Tell them no."
Union Rep to Employees: "They said no again."
Employees to Union Rep: "Then we'll go on strike!"
Union Rep to Company: "They said they'll go on strike."
Company to Union Rep: "Union Rep, you're actually getting paid for this?"
