    Doh !

Its been pointed out by a good source that I got the date wrong in my t/l post : the date was of course Sept 3rd 2011 with some of the tracks featuring on recent Transitions.

Great little set btw ... w. some cool tech house in there from Bedrock, SFR, Crosstown Rebels & the Culprit LA crew.

They have talented people to write 15-minute long proggers or techno stumpers for them, then they listen to Tale Of Us and think: "Wow, this is ten times cooler and one hundred times better than what I play!". Ok, at least do your own playlist.

Digweed playing in this style is still embarrassing to me, I know all ms expects from posters is "Great!" "ID?" "First track rocks!", but there are opinions and opinions.

While I liked the Panorama Bar set, this promo by Digweed (the dj that introduced me to dance in the first place) is full of overplayed tracks, straight from the Resident Advisor Top 50. This is a bit too much. Jump the band-wagon,if you must, just don't play Forward Motion or any Tale Of Us remix you have at hand, dig for unknown tracks. Otherwise there's no difference between Digweed and any other dj out there.
      Agree with all...!!!

Garnier plays jazz, hip-hop, downtempo, electro, brak-bit, drum, progressive, house, techno, fucking everything... and I always hear "Laurent Garnier" sound in this sets !!

Lately when I listen to John, I ask "Who is this" ? Is this Villalobos, Sasha ???!!!

I hear you, sbando. I guess it just doesn't bug me all that much, but I do understand your pining for guys like Digger to go deeper than the big tunes that are around at the moment. Worst case just take a pass when you see mixes like this on the boards.

I really don't get where you're coming from to be honest, at the end of the day you're simply saying you don't like his choice of tunes on his set, so what if they are tracks that are in some top 50? I bet you that people like Sasha and Digweed don't go through the RA top 50, and the fact they are in there probably just means they are good tracks.
I am sick of hearing crap tracks that DJs play because they think no one else is playing, if it is good play it, if it is old, so what? still a good track.

I started listening to Digweed in '91/92 and this is the sort of stuff he was playing then, not sure how old you are? But I was 18 back then and this was the sound that got me into dance, well I had been going to parties in fields and warehouses for 2 years before that when it was acid and hardcore, but it was this sort of house sound that got me into the music rather than just the drugs, so for me this is the best Digweed set I have heard in a very, very long time, the only other one was the Cavo Paradiso mini mix thing.

I don't really listen to any DJs anymore, I just buy tunes and play the stuff I like.
Every few months I grab a couple of new sets from Digweed, Sasha, Zabiela and that is about it, and quite often I recognise some of the tracks as I have bought them, but doesn't stop me from liking those tracks anymore, sure I love fresh stuff more than anything else, but I guess people have all grown up with the same artists and labels in their favourites list, so DJ's are always going to play a lot of tunes the same as each other. So what? Normally just means it's a good tune.

Re: John Digweed - Fabric Promo Mix October 2011

People do realise that when Diggers plays a long set, then he starts of with house and tech house music right ? This hour is a snippet of his set, and it will be the hour that most of the people registered on fabricfirst will like.

Also he plays new music all the time - and always has a different batch of music even if you see him two nights on the bounce. He spends his time going through all the new music he is sent for his label, all the music he is sent from other labels and spends the rest of his time on the likes beatport. At this date he also played two unmastered demo tracks from a local producer that he'd been sent a week previous.

For me this is like an early hour at fabric - if there's a decent sound system there's more options with your music. Given that John gave Guy Gerber massive exposure and played Supplement Facts music from the start, and had Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus on his show back in 2005 and was playing Crosstown Rebels music on Transitions from that time (e.g. Silversurfer's Parisis EP) - he's always played this music within his set. There have always been big changes in music producers and labels e.g. the music centred around the NYC scene that was there until Twilo closed in 2001 had a big impact plus the trance elements of music from that time branched off into Tiesto-land. Late 2004 through 2005 seemed to see a major change killing off a lot of the older elements as that horrible electro sound hit and minimal came in. So quality underground music had to evolve in sme way.

For me it all clicked when John played a stunning set at Space in 2006 with tracks on Moodmusic | Connaisseur | Audiomatique | Poker Flat | Traum | Infant | Kompakt | Re»»Vox | Cocoon | Systematic etc. a lot of whch is influenced by the sounds coming out of Detroit and vice versa (with John also playing the music coming out of there). Bedrock is a lot more diverse in its roster too. The Space set is a classic, perfect and flawless example of building music and started with an empty room that grew and became packed to capacity ending with a live essential mix broadcast.

I assume it's the Jamie Jones track that people don't like him playing - but there's been a big buzz with that, particularly in ibiza ... and its very catchy. I'm sure it drew a great reaction on the night ... i'd also be surprised if Diggers is still playing it now as he'll have more new music that's replaced it.

Re: John Digweed - Fabric Promo Mix October 2011

Can I just add that the DJ top 100 poll had closed when this mix came out ... its to promote the fabric night - Diggers holds a great relationship with the club (who also owned Matter where he ran several Bedrock nights), he has a release in their CD series and this is the third mix they have featured of his on their website.

To say Diggers gave fabric the mix the draw in top 100 votes is offensive - I don't recall get one Top100 e-mail asking me to vote for him : John mentions it on his shows when promoting the guest mix - the feeling I get is that this is to get some votes for the guests to help their careers. He's had his #1 slot back when the poll meant something .. his show and label are all about promoting the other artists and labels rather than about self promotion.

The one thing he does promote is his label - but Bedrock constantly breaks and promotes artists from all fields, scenes and parts of the globe. As Josh Wink says, labels don't make money in the days of file sharing - they are about passion and the music. No one runs a label to make money unless you are going for the MTV/i-tunes crowd like the House Mafia/Guetta or trying to hit the big trance numbers (although goodness knows what they sell against file sharing these days).

Also saying the music is taken from the RA charts is rubbish ... the set was from Sept 3rd :

Track 1 - released by Bedrock Digital

Track 2 - advance from of Gerber's new 11:11 project

Track 3 - over 3 weeks in advance of the Crosstown Rebels Sept 26th release

Track 4 - was released August 17th by Culprit : Hernan has been playing this EP too, so clearly he's trying to become the next Seth Troxler/Jamie Jones as well

Track 5 - released 1st August : 3rd track on a low key ep - no high profile charting on RA

Track 6 - released by Bedrock Records with a very uncommercial (but great) Steve Bug remix

Track 7 - released 24th July 2008 : very underground and very very limited charting on RA : i.e. John playing an older track that few would even think to play these days and probably evidence of how much music he has on the road

Track 8 - released 25th July : Dolphin Love was a big tune for diggers in miami and the follow up has a Ewan Pearson remix - Ewan first appeared on JD's Kiss100 show in May 2002

Track 9 - release 29th August - also played by Hernan (Resident 022)

Track 10 - one of the biggest tracks from ibiza and played by Carl Cox on the space terrace .. and will have been charted and played by tons and tons of DJ's from sasha to the VQ crew ... but its a fun track and I like it too, sorry.

I'm not very fond of the Transformation remix though ... With the risk of stating the obvious, I think I'll stick to the '93 original, thank you very much!

PS. As for Envision, don't know why so many people don't like it! I think it sounds great!

Envision is a stellar track, every track on this playlist is top quality, that's not the point (let's forget about that though, As Simon says, JD has done lighter mixes in special occasions).

Just re-checked for Transitions this week, it's actually the Âme Acoustic Remix of Envision (sussed this on the fadeout) .. unless anyone thinks JD blended this with the Dixon version:

                              This is the Dixon version:
