So I'm actually really excited for this game to come out. I'm a nerd, and when it comes to MMO's I've played a few, but Star Wars + Bioware + MMO = gold.
To brag a bit, I got accepted into the Beta test and get to play it over this weekend. Really excited about that.
I've had a beta request in for over three months.... = Jealous
So I get to beta for 3 days, 7-10th. So tonight when I get home (in 7 hours) I'll be able to play, it opens at 7pm CDT. I'm not supposed to take screenshots or videos, but I may bend the rules a bit and take 1 or 2 screenies. I'm just hoping it lives up to the hype. It's been a long time waiting for the game.
I fail. OMG it is amazing. Granted the game comes out today, but holy shit! Basically imagine something like Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, Mass Effect but in an MMO format. Everything and I mean everything is fully voiced. Quests are given to you in a video cutscene, where after the quest giver goes over the basics you choose to accept or deny the quest through Biowares choice system.
The lore is spot on. You can skip the videos during the cutscenes but then you skip the whole reason behind the quest and don't know why you're told to kill 50 of x creature.
I guess I'll put it this way, if you are into MMO's and are looking for a change from WoW, this is the shit. I'm a huge star wars nerd so I'm eating it up, the game has a lot of glitches, but still for me, it doesn't matter, they will fix them as they go and I'm having a blast leveling so far.
Oh! I just remember also. I play a Sith Marauder to 18, and a Jedi Sentinel to 21 or 22 in my initial beta. I went with the Jedi Sentinel and I'm 31 right now. Honestly the story for the Jedi immerses you A LOT faster than the Sith. the Sith didn't start getting good til around 15-16. With the Jedi I cared about my toon and the choices I made within the first 5 levels.
I WILL be checking this out soon, but really need to finish Skyrim first...
Woudl this game be worthwhile if you don't get into guilds and stuff? I've played other MMOs before, and found that i just can't give the time commitment most guilds want, so I tend to stick to my own. Would the game still be enjoyable playing solo?
It's never too late to become the person you always thought you would be.
So far all I've done is solo. Sure there are certain quests that require 2-4 people (4 is the max in a grp) but usually those aren't too hard to find. The level cap is 50 so I'm 19 levels away from that. I'll have to see what end game content will be like when I get there. I will say though right now, the game is amazing. Everything you loved about Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KotoR is in this game, but then add Star Wars and the MMO ascpect and it's pretty epic.
For everyone that PvP's. I haven't done any of that but I've heard really good things about it. I don't really see a point in PvPing before end level anyway.
I almost forgot, one of the great things about this game is the companions and crafting. You can always have a companion with you (as a jedi) from like level 8 on. Never got my first companion as a Sith. If you are like me and loot everything, the grey quality items, the "junk" you can send your companion to sell that in town and they are back to help you fight in 1 min. Also, the companion isn't useless. Their AI is the best intelligence I've seen in a companion AI and they are actually very viable when it comes to combat. I hae no worries that my companion I have can handle 1 or 2 mobs by themself while I take out the elite, or vice versa. My companion can take out elites while I kick the shit out of the minions surrounding the elite.
The way you craft is with your companions so you don't have to waste your time sitting in front of some crafting station. You have your companion do it while you are out leveling or otherwise doing shit that isn't wasting your time staring at your toon making some invisible thing. My one gripe about the crafting is it is like Aion in the fact that the more you make or disassemble an item the better the chance you can make an improved item of that specific thing. IE you make boots with 5 strength and 5 Endurance (Stam/Health) and then you discover the improved version, it may have 6 str and 6 endurance. The reason I gripe with this is it can make "grinding" the profession tedious if you want "all the patterns". Like I said about pvp, I don't see any point in wasting mats to get the improved versions of the low level crap I can make, I'll wait til I'm 50 and then work on getting the rarer better items.
Anyway, in short, if you like MMO's and Star Wars or you like 1 of the 2, check the game out for at least 1 month.
So I'll be 50 (Level Cap) today. The game so far is everything I'd like it to be. A lot of people complain about the space combat, which is just like a rail shooter. Can it be annoying, sure, but the way I look at space combat is the same way I looked at Swoop Racing in KOTOR 1 and 2. When you are bored or want some creds, do a space mission. I'm sure in the future things might change.
I will say that of course there are some bugs to be worked out but as a whole the game is pretty sweet, just looking forward to end game.
