    Release Notes:

    01. Henry Saiz - La Marea [Bedrock Records | Bed100]
    02. Henry Saiz & Guy J - Meridian [Bedrock Records | Bed100]

John Digweed’s Bedrock Records celebrates a milestone 100th single release in superb style with two of the best tracks that you will hear this year, from two of the most creative young producers in the electronic dance scene– Guy J and Henry Saiz.

In this day and age to not only survive as an independent label, but to flourish and constantly evolve, bringing forward new and exciting talent, is something that should be applauded. A mark of the global respect and love that Bedrock has steadily gained through years of releasing quality dance music that rides the waves of trends and fashions is the fact that this Bed100 release received over 12,000 listens on Soundcloud before it was even officially announced!

So perhaps it is fitting to leave it to the music lovers out there to tell us what they think of this release...

Brilliant choice for your 100th release John, the chaps certainly haven't let you down! Massive tune! With these two how could it be anything but great? Amazing tripping track! Super cool! Unbelievable! 2 of THE biggest producers in the scene = divine! This is perfect!!! Huge! Killer!!!! This is dream come true, great work from 2 great producers. AWESOME TRACK!!! Hell yeah! OMG!! This is massive! Insane! Amazing positive vibe! This track takes my soul back home at the sea. Beautiful track! Amazing beauty! Stunning sounds! Awesome tune!

Guy J has emerged over the course of the last two years to represent an intrinsic part of the new momentum in clubland. He has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. His distinct style and beauty were recently showcased on his stunning 3 disc '1000 Words' (Bedrock) album, so collaborating with Spain's Henry Saiz on ‘Meridian’ for Bedrock's 100th release was a match made in heaven. Henry's critically acclaimed 'Balance 019' album earlier this year has seen his star potential explode around the globe and the inclusion of his additional solo 'La Marea' track here is a mark of the highest level of quality that this extraordinarily talented young producer exhibits.

Hats off the Bedrock this is yet another stunning release. May there be many, many, more!

    PATCH PARK

The past several years have been an amazing voyage for Dutch Techno DJ and Producer “Patch Park”, playing around the globe at leading clubs such as The Loft (ES), Paradiso (NL), Ministry Of Sound (UK) and Space Terrace (USA), Amnesia (ES) and renowned festivals such as Dance Valley, Nature One, Solar and Extrema Outdoor. This festival has left a big impact on Patch Park when he was invited by Dave Clarke to play at his White Noise area after delivering a huge remix for his classic Techno anthem “Wisdom To The Wise (Red 2)”.

Later that night when the British Techno legend himself also dropped Patch Park’s remix again, the 7.500 people area really exploded, delivering a goose bump moment never to forget. In 2008 he joined Extrema Music, which led to more fine DJ moments playing alongside class acts such as Joris Voorn, Dave Clarke, Adam Beyer, Slam, Edwin Oosterwal, Len Faki and DJ Remy to name a few.

In the studio times are quite exciting as well. After a healthy history of making tracks, his production skills did not get unnoticed and it didn’t take long before DJs such as Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, John Digweed and Dave Clarke discovered Patch Park’s unique sound. The industry’s leading labels also spotted his productions and resulted in releases on Shlomi Aber’s mighty “Be As One imprint”, worldwide renowned “Renaissance Recordings”, Jamie McHugh’s “Variance Recordings”and Darko Essers’s lovely “Wolfskuil Records”. Forthcoming material includes a dancefloor-smashing release named “Oddity” (incl. Deetron Remix) which will be released on on Be As One in the beginning of 2010.

    06. Tony Dee - Plastic Dream [Kling Klong Records | Promo]

An advance peek at 'A Kind Of Kling Klong 5' as Napoli's Tony Dee does it Detroit style. The only way to get this one currently is via the Kling Klong Premium Memberclub (through facebook) where you can get avances on all their releases.

    07. Ben Sims - I Wanna Go Back (Featuring Blake Baxter) [Drumcode | DC87]

Late-October sees the long awaited release of Ben Sims' debut LP, 'Smoke & Mirrors', on Swedish techno imprint Drumcode.

Having developed an impeccable reputation in the past twenty years since delving into the word of turntables and mixtapes at an early age, Sims can be called a genuine legend in the world of techno. As a producer he has remixed Jeff Mills, Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer and Kevin Saunderson as well as releasing on just about every seminal techno imprint there is. As an A&R he's been at the helm of nine labels, including the highly influential Ingoma and KB Records inc, and continues to steward Theory and Hardgroove towards the boxes of the discerning fans.

Most recently the London-based producer has seen his 'Way Back Wednesday' (with Tony Anderson), 'Funk You' and occasional disco radio shows garner huge support while ploughing further energy into the futurist techno club night "Machine' alongside Kirk Degiorgio.

It's with Sims' multitude of achievements and notoritey in mind that the knowledge that 'Smoke & Mirrors' is his debut LP is somewhat unbelievable, but fact it is. After initially hooking up with Adam Beyer's Drumcode imprint late in 2010 after a long standing friendship, the affable and dry witted Sims' was persuaded to deliver an LP and the lengthy writing and selection process began. The result is 11 superb productions which showcase Ben's talents, influences and perhaps most importantly, his vision of what techno can and should be.

From the off 'Smoke & Mirrors' is a technicolour affair that refuses to sit too comfortably into one groove, preferring to pull the listener through a range of vibes that, while disparate, flow together perfectly. As the album moves, snippets of new vibes bleed through before developing into themes and this is one of the brilliant elements of 'Smoke & Mirrors'.

The rousing and prophetically titled 'Riots in London' opener leads us into a frenetic, dub-tinged and filter-driven aesthetic which is neatly carried on in 'Descent' but subtly augmented with almost-there soulful vocal samples. This nod to soulful elements is then carried on in the less pacey, house referencing ' The Snake' which fuses stabbing keys to a skipping beat which is as much New York as it is Detroit, London or Berlin.

As 'Smoke & Mirrors' develops, suprises like the out-and-out tech-funk of 'Back To The Pod' and the street party disco of 'Can You Feel It?' are hinted at but never lack surprise when dropped. The emphatic drive of the huge sounding 'I Wanna Go Back' featuring Blake Baxter takes things back to techno territory and does so with real purpose while darker edged tracks such as the lethal 'Bullet' and the late-night discordance of 'The Afterparty' ramp up the tension.

The twilight sections of Sims' debut are perfectly judged. The dubbed (and blissed) out title track lightens the mood before the slightly more aggressive but widescreen 'The Calling' trips proceedings out in anticipation of the closer, the Tyree Cooper vocalled and aptly titled 'I Feel It Deep'

'Smoke & Mirrors' has been more than worth the wait. It's as balanced, entertaining, engaging and powerful as you'd expect from such an artist as Ben Sims and, complete with artwork from Alan Oldham and collaborations from Blake Baxter and Tyree Cooper, is essential stuff.

    08. Jewel Kid - Brasil [Alleanza | ALLE001]

Malta's Jewel Kid has won the Carl Cox Worldwide remix competition held by Beatport for "Best House Remix" and had releases on Bitten, Break New Soil, Cr2, Neurotraxx Deluxe, Starlight, Natura Viva, Nervous, Baroque & Proton.

There is no better way to introduce Alleanza, Jewel Kid's new imprint, then to release what is to be considered as two of his most anticipated tracks to date. "Seahorses & Earthquakes" features 2 tracks from Jewel Kid himself - "Brasil" and "Amus" - that continue to exhibit the well-founded sound that he has recently been acquainted with.

Considering Jewel Kid's exceptional valour in his productions, and the respect other artists have shown for his work, it is highly recommended to keep your eyes, and ears, peeled for Alleanza's upcoming releases which will showcase some of Jewel Kid's finest work and a few guest projects from some of his favourite artists.

    09. Jake & Amber - This Is Mine [M_nus | MINUS 113]

    RELEASE INFORMATION:

Artist/Title: Jake & Amber | This Is Mine
    Catalogue No.: MINUS113
    Label: MINUS
    Format: 12”, MP3, WAV

    TRACK LISTING:

    A. This Is Mine
    B. Teenpop

Minus 113 introduces a pair of artists who are new to the label. Jake & Amber met while studying advanced hemp-weaving at Colorado Springs Community College. Their shared passion for baked goods led them to open a pastry shop in northern New Hampshire, called Hot Drippin Biscuits.

In their free time Jake was discovering the hallucinogenic traditions of his Native American heritage (he’s 1/8th Comanche) while Amber worked on inspiring gender dysphoria among the locals. But they were unfulfilled until they discovered electronic music by way of a Steve Rachmad CD flying through their car window one summer evening.

Deciding that it was the perfect music for dolphins and other sea creatures, they set about making water-tank soundtracks for flippered beat-friends at the local aquarium. With a bit of modest success (porpoises squeaking “ultimo!” after each song) they decided to move to Kensucket County Florida to work at Ocean World. A chance visit to the Orcas in Paradise show by Richie Hawtin changed their fate. He immediately signed his favorite multi-porpoise hits and introduced them to the next chapter of their lives. Now Jake & Amber spend their days tuning 909s to elicit responses from thought-impaired Europeans instead of their underwater cousins.

“Teenpop” is exactly what it sets out to be: a lush mating call for speedy slabs of grey, wet meat (we’re talking about dolphins). With a rolling bassline that undulates like waves when the shark tank is ‘arockin, the track sets out with deep, penetrating thickness. Punctuated by gasping vocal stabs and quirky percussion, one can imagine teen mammals of all species clapping their appendages in appreciation. The track hits its apex with a vicious breakdown, jarring enough to wake any comatose raver from his underwater doldrums, only to rock back into place like an orca who has just snatched a small child from the audience and returned to the depths for a snack.

“This Is Mine” is a much deeper affair. A steady single-note bassline throbs in from the beginning, while jazzy hi-hats filter in to reveal a head-nodding groove. Jake & Amber outdo themselves with an emotive, powerful vocal hook that repeats its mantra over and over. Melodic synth stabs and wobbly pads ride above the groove, adding a melodic, moody nature to the building energy. The richness of the keys appearing in the second half add an essential uplifting note to the whole affair, like a Free Willy finding love, and riding out to the sunset.

Jake & Amber have found a new calling, and we’re all eager to hear what they bring up next.

Diggers' note for this show :

Transitions gets underway with two real exclusives as Bedrock celebrates a century of quality releases. Madrid maestro Henry Saiz's ‘La Marea’ starts off with shimmering keys and restrained beats as the Natura Sonoris boss masterfully crafts and builds the theme, before breaking things down and crashing back in as a driving main room summer anthem. On the B-side Henry teams up with Guy J to unleash Meridian, with its beguiling & exquisite Balearic melody underpinned by crisp beats, sumptuous strings, emotional chords and haunting synths this is a great way to celebrate a musical milestone. A remix package will also follow.

The label’s sound has really developed since that maiden 1999 Bed1 release, with the diverse roster of artists, busy release schedule and club nights/events being stronger than ever. The next Bedrock night will be at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).

Speaking of ADE .. next we check out Tronic's conference sampler - firstly with a cool little tech house number from label head Christian Smith, who has been on fire in 2011, before Marco Bailey takes over with some of his trademark high energy techno. We keep with the Dutch theme as Patch Park launch the Fone Audio imprint before there’s an advance peek at 'A Kind Of Kling Klong 5’ with the swirling techno of Napoli's Tony Dee. Two legends combine on 'I Wanna Go Back' from Ben Sims' highly anticipated debut LP 'Smoke & Mirrors' : Detroit pioneer Blake Baxter’s cool vocal accompanies the driving beats with emphatic results.

Malta's Jewel Kid introduces his Alleanza imprint, drawing a great DJ reactions from Joris Voorn & Gregor Tresher to Stacey Pullen to Dubfire & Carlo Lio. We close with a couple of new artists on M_nus as Jake & Amber turn in a deep tech fueled affair with pulsing bass, jazzy hi-hats, wobbly pads & a catchy vocal motif.

Pig & Dan return for this weeks guest mix, hot on the back of their double-CD compilation ‘Then & Now’ for Yoshitoshi - ‘Then’ features the duo’s past favorites while ‘Now’ sees 11 all new Pig & Dan productions. [John Digweed]

After the first 2 tunes anyways, which aren't really part of the mix.
