    Release Notes:

    01. The Field - It's Up There (Looping State Of Mind LP) [Kompakt | KOMPAKT 241]

    Looping State Of Mind
    The Field // Kompakt
    Format // Dolp+Cd // Cd

It's with the arrival of Looping State Of Mind that you finally realise that, for The Field's ambient techno explorer Axel Willner, the loop never stops. While fans and critics alike point to 2007's phenomenal debut From Here We Go Sublime – included in Pitchfork's Top 100 albums of the 2000s – and 2009's equally stirring follow up Yesterday & Today as standalone points of the Swede's music; it becomes clear that they appear as mere snapshots of what, for the producer, is a continual cycle of revolutions.

Revelling in the warm recognition of their recurring patterns, imbuing conflicting twin senses of present and nostalgia, familiarity doesn't breed contempt; for Willner sees each loop as another chance to adjust, to build upon and multiply so that several of even the slightest nuances can combine to form a true aural evolution.

So it is on this, The Field's third album, and yet so it has been too for the artist. Rewind three years and, plaudits from his debut LP still ringing in his ears and amongst resultant tours with LCD Soundsystem and !!!, he'd swapped his native Stockholm for the nocturnal utopia of Berlin's heady streets and clubbing scene. A major internal shift occurred meanwhile when he invited Dan Enqvist and multi- instrumentalist Andreas Söderstrom – since replaced with drummer Jesper Skarin - to turn his hitherto singular vision into a three-piece group.

Yesterday & Today was the immediate reaction concocted by the alchemy of those events, gaining more plaudits and leading to headlining tours of Europe. Looping State Of Mind though is the strengthening of those bonds and ideas, the addition of Skarin in particular – Axel comments – "taking The Field to another level." "It's been evolving and it will keep on doing so," he says, in a statement that could be equally true of the group's music, "people come and go, adding their things to it, you change as well and so will the sound." It's this evolution that's notable in this new record, a move away from the more unblended techno foundations that encapsulated From Here We Go Sublime in particular. "Many of my old influences are still there," he admits, "German electronics, modern classical, shoegaze and so on ... but to be perfectly honest I now rarely put on a techno record at home or check out techno acts at clubs." Instead, previous ideas have been expanded upon and, more importantly, new ones added; vocal samples now creep around signature sound washes, whispering on the periphery; greater contrast has been added with acoustic instruments such as double bass and piano recorded amongst the samples – the result of recording of in the fully-equipped Dumbo Studios in Kompakt's home town of Cologne.

Many of the initial sketches, however, still came from Willner himself at his home studio in Berlin, suggesting an embryonic growth to the creation process; "some of the ideas stretching back to the debut are still there," he says, cementing this idea of furthering the re-visited, "but we've just made a real attempt to grow the sound." The album was mixed by Jörg Burger aka The Modernist. What's truly evident – as has always done with The Field's music - is its evocative quality, how it can stir a half-image or memory of a certain time or event in its listener's past. To that end it makes the trio's output an open-ended interpretation; moods and feelings are provided, allowing the listener to then follow them towards requisite personal checkpoints – something made succinct in the album's title.

"It comes from the feeling of having looping thoughts – both good and bad – in your head, and being unable to get them out," explains Willner, "but then, of course, my music is based around loops and repetition too." And so for The Field the loop keeps on spinning, a journey that may find no location yet is content to know that it's moving firmly forwards. This most recent snapshot that they've decided to take, however, is their most captivating yet.

    05. Gui Boratto - Flying Practice (III LP) [Kompakt | KOMPAKT 242]

    Title // III
    Gui Boratto // Kompakt
    Format // Dolp+Cd // Cd

Gui Boratto is truly that success story that aspiring dance producers dream of. From his Brazilian home of Săo Paolo as a student of architecture and design, he quickly found himself in the position as one of the countries primary pop/rock producers (including work for Steel Pulse). It was with his 2005 debut Kompakt release on the K2 sub-label "Arquipélago" that shot him into prominence and paved a strong path of singles that led to the now classic full length "Chromophobia".

The lead singles "Mr. Decay" and "Beautiful Life" remain two of the most unforgettable tracks in Kompakt history - the latter official video with well over a million views on YouTube. It was his sophomore album, the 2009 breakthrough, "Take My Breath Away" which evolved him as a dance producer further into a realm of his own right as one of Brazil's most established musicians. His remixes for Pet Shop Boys, Massive Attack and co-producing Bomb The Bass further demonstrate this tremendous talent amongst us. Following a world-wide rollercoaster of almost 3 years continuously on the road touring, Gui Boratto found himself back in his Săo Paolo studio in early 2011. The results are here with "III" – arguably his greatest musical accomplishment to date.

Kicking off with the slo drive "Galuchat" the sitar-ish instrumental embedded in the track sets a foundation of melancholic organic groove found throughout "III". "Stems From Hell" will not disappoint the die-hard fan – his masterful approach to the maximum and minimum of sound variation is pure peak time. "Striker" was originally intended for his second full length but was left on hold and fortunately completed for "III". Featuring vocals from Gui Boratto himself, his contagious bass line has no limit recalling the likes of Echo And The Bunnymen. Gui began "III" with "The Third" – a gorgeous play on the four/four pattern that suddenly moves from eight bars to only six. Hi-hats become almost shuffle like in their flow. Gui Boratto said about going into producing "The Trap" that "the good thing about doing an album are the possibilities of experimentalism". He lets his instinct totally flow as a Rhodes, Piano and Tremolo Guitar converse with one another. Beauty and sadness remarkably collide.

A sure album highlight, "Destination: Education" marks the return of his wife Luciana Villanova on vocals (who also sings on "Beautiful Life"). A 119 techno/house crooner that will be a surefire favorite on the modern dance floor. Gui lovingly alikens "Flying Practice" as a part of the three bars that grace the album cover. Classic trance chording build a variety of moods and builds. A French horn make the transition and conclusion. "Soledad" is directly inspired and pays homage Astor Piazzolla's "Soleda" and ironically a little of Duran Duran's "Save A Prayer". This journey ends off with "This Is Not The End" – an indie minded track that demonstrates how masterful Gui Boratto has evolved his signature sound into something quite monumental. Again, Luciana Villanova's beautiful vocals captures the spirit of what Boratto brings to life. Rounded off with a final synth that makes you feel that something WILL continue – not end.

    08. Soulwerk - Fraktals [Replug | RPLG017]

    Artist // Soulwerk
    Title // Fraktals EP
    Label // Replug
Genre // Techno,Prog-House,

    Tracklist:

1 Soulwerk - Fraktals (Original Mix)

2 Soulwerk - Fraktals (Alex & Filip Remix)

3 Soulwerk - Spirals (Original Mix)

    Release Info:

The 17th release on Cid Inc's formidable Replug imprint sees the debut of Spanish producer Soulwerk. Gonzalo Luque aka Soulwerk had his first and only release thus far came courtesy of the Canadian label Whose Haus back in May of this year. It was a spectacular debut that contained 3 original tracks that were of the caliber of a seasoned veteran. Soulwerk's debut for Replug is entitled 'Fraktals' and it contains two new originals and a remix from top Slovenian producers Alex & Filip.

The lead track 'Fraktals' opens the release off with a tough and meticulous groove. An assortment of old school claps and a fuzzy, hypnotic loop forge an incredibly fresh design. The peak time drive and energy is catapulted by an expansive breakdown. As the drop progresses the rich atmosphere evolves to a vibrate climax that should see great reactions from all the educated dance floors out there.

Alex Nemec & Filip Wieser joined forces in 2005 and in doing so the Alex & Filip production moniker was born. DJs from Marco Bailey to Dave Seaman have sung their praises and they've appeared on Rekluse, Respekt, Flow and their own esteemed Mirabilis imprint. They make their debut on Replug here and provide the lone remix of 'Fraktals'. Alex & Filip have provided a much more techno inspired sensibility on 'Fraktals'. The chugging groove and intricate design are ultra modern and geared perfectly for today's dance floors. The consistent atmospheric tension from the original shines through as well and should inspire some striking big room moments.

The second original 'Spirals' concludes the package with a supple techno vibe that is both melodious and esoteric. The galloping beats meld well with Soulwerk's subversive groove for a wonderfully sleek and sophisticated concept. The seamless flow is interwoven with distinguished yet subtle leads combined with dazzling hypnotics that flutter about for an unparalleled contemporary vibe that is quite exhilarating.

    Release Date: Oct 04 2011

This is still one of my favourite shows , and this track, B.I.G. - A Promise (Dark Soul Project Remix), I have been patiently waiting for a release ever since'. Would love to buy it , but guess that won't happen now.

Hernan played it in Canberra and it was just incredible !! I will never forget. !! Last night of the tour , then this magic happened.

Dark Soul Project is going to give it away if he gets up to 2000 likes on Facebook. Hate that they do that, but it is an amazing track

I have the original released in 2004
and is very very nice too,
not too much different with this remix
                          but i like.
