Press Russell Deeks of IDJ magazine gives ‘Chips, Beans & Cheese’ EP 8/10 and a great review. http://thisiswhywedance.blogspot.com...cheese-ep.html England’s premier art and culture magazine CRACK described Owen as ‘The rising star in London’s techno circles’ and predicts that he is ‘A bet for bigger things’. http://youlovecrack.com/article/367/owen-howells/ Additionally, he was also selected to record an exclusive mix (number 217) for the infamous BTE Podcast sessions. Owen Howells Biography Owen Howells, 25, was born in the UK, but his love for electronic music and hedonistic underground parties developed in Australia where he moved during the early 90s. While Down Under, he was exposed to music at a young age playing piano, drums and joining several high-school bands. Aged 15, Owen got his first pair of turntables and quickly became engrossed in DJing and music, drawing from influential genres such as hip-hop, folk and reggae. After several years travelling Asia, Australia and Europe, he returned home to the UK and set up a studio in lively Lewisham, southeast London. Over the past 18 months, Owen has released his first productions - best described as a tight, but boundary-pushing collection of house and techno tracks - on labels such as Muchiq, Wunderkammer, Brickbat & Toffler music entertainment In recent months Owen has signed an EP to IDJ magazine’s label of the month Sounds of Juan records, the EP features a vocalist from NYC called Real Carrera and blends early rave aesthetics with Owen’s existing house/techno sound. As a broadcaster and DJ, he’s held down shows on some of London’s best pirate and internet radio stations including Fresh FM, Unknown FM, Apache FM and Destine Media, and currently hosts a show every Tuesday from 8pm to 10pm (GMT) on Earyworm TV (a new London-based audio/visual broadcasting project). Owen has played at major London clubs including Ministry Of Sound, Pacha, Egg, East Village, One More (warehouse parties) Russian Bar, The Doors, Chapeau Rogue aka Prague - both solo and back to back with Nick Varley. Moreover, he has played alongside and warmed up for international stars such as Groove Armada, Mauro Picotto, Stefano Noferini, Sebastian Voigt, Cagedbaby, Moguai, Gina star, Raymundo Rodriguez, Tony D, Laidback Luke, Dirty South and Lucio Aquilna. Owen’s sets combine a vast knowledge of electronic music with attention to detail mixing and have helped to establish him as one of the rare breed of DJs able to turn stiff, motionless dance floors into chaotic, fun-filled raves. 2011 looks extremely bright for the young DJ and producer with EPs and remixes scheduled for release on some the scene’s finest labels and the launch of Owen’s Fiendkast podcast series available on www.fiendkast.com and iTunes. Each Fiendkast show features Owen playing records for an hour followed by a guest mix and interview. Expect to hear some of the true heroes of house and techno featured in this series.
