CITY FLY RECORDS 002 – CREATIVESWING ALLIANCE ‘CSA EP’

After the success of theirdebut 12” – the ‘Visions EP’ featuring James Johnston, YSE,Tone Control and Basic Soul Unit – with support coming from thefull house spectrum (including Alex Agore, Brawther, Danny Tenaglia,Deetron, Ethyl, Groove Armada, Red Rack’em and many more), it’sonly natural City Fly follow up their 1strelease with a new EP to further showcase the deeper house soundssynonymous with their ethos.
Wanting to expand theirvision yet stay true to their roots, for their 2ndrelease City Fly are proud to present the ‘CSA EP’ by CreativeSwing Alliance aka Pablo Valentino & Steven Wobblejay. Notcontent in running Faces Records – featuring releases from Simbadand Danilo Plessow’s Motor City Drum Ensemble/Inverse Cinematicsaliases – and releasing 12”s under his Creative Swing Alliance,Kid Swing and Hipster Wonkaz pseudonyms, Pablo also co-runs thealready iconic and buy-on-sight MCDE imprint with Danilo Plessow andis an influential component in the label gaining notoriety and cultstatus with its ‘Raw Cuts’ series – ubiquitous in many a DJ’sset regardless of genre. Steven has releasedrecords on Compost Records, Soultronik & Jazzmin under hismoniker Steppah Huntah and played double bass for the Japanese jazzband Sleepwalker”. They both come from the city of Strasbourg,France, shared turntables & dropped parties for more than 10years together.
On to their debut for CityFly and their eponymous ‘CSA EP’ is judging by the track titlesan ode to love and showcases their ability in joining the dotsbetween the classic sounds of Detroit Techno, Chicago House and NewYork Garage – fusing a cross-pollination of sounds complete with anear open to the future. No longer under the radar, this is CreativeSwing Alliance’s opportunity to be at the forefront of the housemovement – one within which City Fly are excited to be part of...

    A1 – ‘GET DOWN’
Kicking off the EP is ‘GetDown’, which as the title implies is one aimed squarely at thedancefloor. Commencing with a heavy kick and crowd noises – listencarefully and the shouts decipher as ‘Down here, get down here’,very apt in this case – the track soon builds into a multi-texturedgroove complete with rhythmic bass, incessant synths and killer keysthat contribute to an unrelenting yet hypnotic climax which ceases todrop. Definitely one to rinse peak-time...
    A2 – ‘IN LOVE’
Initially building withguitar licks and an infectious male vocal hook yearning to ‘Fall inlove again’, ‘In Love’ metamorphoses into a multi-layeredsyncopated rhythm complete with warm swirling pads, heavy basslineand teasing female vocal snippets that interject throughout.Relentlessly building, the track culminates with a percolating andtranscendent climax that adds another dimension, taking the listeneron a journey whether on the stereo or in the club...
    B1 – ‘WHAT WOMENNEED’
Reminiscent of aproduction on his Detroit-inspired MCDE imprint, ‘What Women Need’is a raw, stripped-back affair with a typically de rigueur soul voxthat adds warmth yet compliments the pulsing bassline effortlessly. Aslow-burner that grows on repeated listens, though it has a morelaissez-faire approach its simplicity makes it all the more engaging– resulting in an effective warm-up tool that will appeal to theheads and dancers alike…
B2 – ‘IN LOVE’(JAMES JOHNSTON LOST LOVE MIX)
Having contributed to CityFly’s debut ‘Visions EP’ with ‘Move Forward’ and buildingup an impressive discography on the house roster withreleases/remixes on 4 Lux, Kolour Recordings and Undertones – notto mention co-founding the ‘No Matter What’ label with fellowhouse producer du jour Alex Agore – it was inevitable City Flywould retain the services of fellow kindred spirit James Johnston.Taking a deeper trajectory, James’ remix of ‘In Love’ is anatmospheric interpretation with a haunting larynx and echoesreverberating against a warm, shuffling bassline – descending intoa deep nocturnal jam that’s perfect for the early hours...
