Re: Is EDM Starting to Grow Again?
Judging by the responses, I think EDM is marketed for the modern hipster who likes a blend of pop/rap stars and random dance-happy music clips on a penthouse somewhere in Ibiza (they can dream can't they?).
EDM is a serious business these days, gone is the cliché of the rock star; sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Today we see the DJ, the crowd controller who can make some serious coin and be showered by amazing women, ultimately this the lure and not a bad career if you make it, and needless to say it produces some pretty shite music for those out there just for this.
Good music will always live on, just take a listen to Transitions or Hernan's show and without fail I hear some blinder of a tune and think house has never sounded better; the production and delivery is amazing, whatever sub-genre it falls into.
I honestly think the about to be retired greats e.g. Digweed, Sasha etc. should make way for the future stars on the mixers. But then again how could you live up to a names like these?
So yes EDM is growing, but reluctant to say commercially growing.
