            03. Luis Bondio & Ivan Jaime - Ballest Style
            04. Guy J & Henry Saiz Meridian [Bedrock Records | Bed100]

            Release Notes:

            01. Tracey Thorn - Swimming (Visionquest Remix, Ewan Pearson Re-Edit) (Night Time EP) [Strange Feeling Records | 012FEEL]

Limited Edition 12" translucent blue vinyl. Signed by Tracey.

            A1 Night Time
            A2 'Swimming' (Charles Webster Remix)
B1 'Swimming' (Visionquest Remix, Ewan Pearson Re-Edit)
D4 'Swimming' (Charles Webster Dub) is only available as download. It is not on the vinyl.

In the summer of 2010 Mercury Music Prize winners (and Everything But The Girl fans) The xx asked Tracey Thorn and her long-time partner in EBTG Ben Watt (also Strange Feeling label boss) to record a track from the The xx’s debut album for a special compilation the band were commissioning of covers of the album's songs by their favourite artists. Unfortunately the project fell apart a few months later for numerous logistical reasons (not least the second wind breathed into the original album by the Mercury Prize victory) but not before Tracey had sung a new version of one the album most beautiful tracks, 'Night Time'.

The track gathered dust for a few months but it is rightfully seeing the light of day on a new EP from Tracey Thorn called the 'Night Time EP', released on Strange Feeling on October 31, much to the delight of all concerned.

'Night Time' was handpicked by Tracey and features Ben guesting on guitars and backing vocals (it is the first time the two have played together on a recording for over ten years) with the drums, programming and mix coming courtesy of Tracey's current production collaborator Ewan Pearson (producer of both Tracey's recent acclaimed album 'Love And Its Opposite' and 2007's 'Out Of The Woods'). As Tracey re-articulates Romy's lyrics, Ben fluidly arpeggiates the original interwoven guitar lines into one seamless pass, while Ewan adds crisp fresh half-tempo drums, atmospheric misty synths and booming bass.

On the flip side, one of 'Love And Its Opposite''s most popular tracks 'Swimming' is revisited. Ewan buffs up and re-edits last year's remix by (then emerging and now) current dance producers-du-jour, Visionquest (Detroit's Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss) into a new version, with judicious new drum parts and a sparkling widescreen mix-down. Expect serious autumn club action.

Meanwhile, UK underground house legend Charles Webster adds his magic to 'Swimming' too, with a beautifully percussive main mix and a rainy, autumnal dub.

            Ibiza Voice Review [8/10]

The result of a broken down project undertaken for Mercury Prize winning band The xx, Tracey Thorn’s Night Time EP on Strange Feeling is simply a real treat for music fans. Not only does it involve a cover of The xx’s ‘Night Time’ recorded by Tracey Thorn and partner Ben Watt (their first recorded collaboration for over ten years) but it also includes a Ewan Pearson re-edit of Visionquest’s remix of ‘Swimming,’ one of the club anthems of last year in addition to a brace of beautiful remixes from the inimitable Charles Webster.

As fans of Everything But The Girl, London band The xx approached Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt back in the summer of last year to be possible collaborators for a special compilation of cover songs the band were commissioning by their favourite artists. Unfortunately the compilation never happened but Tracey and Ben had already recorded their own re-interpretation of Night Time which now sees the light of day on their very own label.

Tracey applies her stunning vocals to ease yet beauty into the original lyrics as Ben Watt guests on guitars, stretching the hook into a continuous line whilst at the same time adding more depth to the track by applying hushed backing vocals. Fresh from producing Tracey’s latest album, Love and Its Opposite, Ewan Pearson is at the controls of the drums and programming, to add crisp drums and atmospheric synths. The trio have managed to create a cover version that adds their own inventive sound to a well known track but in a soft and subtle way that pays homage to The xx’s original.

Ewan Pearson is then back on hand to offer his re-edit of Visionquest’s remix of ‘Swimming’ taken off Tracey’s album from last year. The Detroit natives turned the track into a true end of night, club anthem just as Ewan injects new personality into that remix. New drum parts add more energy in a remix that seems to increase momentum and provide a cinematic landscape at the same time. House legend Charles Webster provides two reworks of ‘Swimming’ himself. First he turns in a percussive mix that jangles with beautiful melodies and relaxed keys before closing the EP off with a dub version that is awashed in a trickling, autumnal sound that captures the true essence of the original.

            02. Matthias Vogt - Copying The Future [Polytone Recordings | PLTR006]

            Release date // Vinyl: 30.09.2011 // Digital 12.10.2011
            Distributed by Intergroove

The musical heavyweight Matthias Vogt is back on Polytone. After the success of his first EP "Together as One" - sold out vinyl edition, excellent feedback from top DJ´s, first track on the Big City Beats Compilation Vol. 13 CD 3 - the second EP arrives on Polytone. The Polytone boys knew right away that "Copying the future" has the potential to be a classic. A track with character and a high recognition value: hypnotic rave stabs and uplifting chords combined with a driving groove will send shivers down each true music lovers spine. "Copying the future" is delivering deja vu´s without copying the past - a great track with a past and a future, deeply rooted in the here and now. "Stillach" claps its way into every listeners ear. The B side of the EP named after a mountain stream in the Allgäu is calm and also powerful with a slow, minimal and very tight groove. Vogt is going deeper! Matthias Vogt once again demonstrates his great musical skill and versatility.

            04. Shamique & Stephan Bazbaz – Bouquet (Lank Remix) [Assymetric Recordings | AR056]

Bouquet is the first single from Tel Aviv's Shamique and Stephan Bazbaz , who are both regular contributors on Asymmetric Recordings and are extremely versatile and sophisticated producers and djs . Hungarian dj/producer Lank (Boz Boz, microCastle, Proton Music, Armada ) is on the remixing duties here and he is being simple and very effective, providing us with an amazing cut.

The original version of Bouquet is a beauty that flows with supreme ease . It is melodic and delicate , organically building the intensity while preserving experimental , atmospheric and dreamy feeling . Lank has prepared a more techno inspired remix, full of detuned elements , abstract synth sounds and a heavy bottom-end percussion-led hypnotic groove . Shortly speaking - Bouquet is another magical package from Asymmetric.

Release Date: 26th of September 2011

It has not gone by unnoticed that, over the last five years, the Rhein Main area has become a decisive nucleus for innovative, powerful and modern House music. One who is not entirely innocent of this is Mannheim-based DJ, producer and label head Nick Curly, whose imprints 8 Bit and Cécille Records are guarantees for standard-setting electronic dance music. Since his Cocoon debut "Pujante" (2009) and especially since the Party Animals Cocoon Ibiza Summer Mix 2010, he is a frequent and welcome guest at Cocoon's. The three tracks of his "Sun City" EP are an impressive proof for Curly's maturation process: with a clear orientation towards the needs of the dancefloor, he exploits the sound potential of compressed House textures. The title track captivates the listener with a subsonically perfected bass line and a discoid Hi-NRG modulation, forming a deluxe prime time anthem, whereas the dense and dub-referring deepness of "Green Baize" is enchanting just everybody, and, for the final, "Libero"'s rich percussive rhythms are strongly stressing the pelvic thrust. So, virtually nothing can go wrong with Nick's World Tour between Ibiza, Moscow, Manchester and NYC!

            06. Hall North - Levinas (Soulwerk Remix) [Tulipa Recordings | TULIPA023]

Deep, driving tech house with a hint of soulful nostalgia. Levinas was a (Lithuanian-born) French Philosopher who once said: "Memory as an inversion of historical time is the essence of interiority"

Full (High Resolution) Artwork : Here >> http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t.../TULIPA023.jpg

Hailing from the industrial landscape of Teesside in North East England, Hall North has risen to notoriety recently due to his remix of Harvey Mckay's '69' which was released on Soma in October 2010.

A classically trained pianist with huge enthusiasm for all things electronic and a life-long fan of bands like Depeche Mode and New Order, Hall North draws inspiration from a diverse pallette of influences, from Brian Eno to Frankie Knuckles, Ennio Morricone to Buriel and everything in between.

Much like the landscape surrounding his home town, Hall North's tracks and sets encompass all that is deep/ethereal and dark/beautiful about house and techno music and emphasise the pure bitter sweet emotion that makes dance-floor experiences so memorable.

            08. Guy J & Henry Saiz Meridian [Bedrock Records | Bed100]

John Digweed’s Bedrock Records celebrates a milestone 100th single release in superb style with two of the best tracks that you will hear this year, from two of the most creative young producers in the electronic dance scene– Guy J and Henry Saiz.

In this day and age to not only survive as an independent label, but to flourish and constantly evolve, bringing forward new and exciting talent, is something that should be applauded. A mark of the global respect and love that Bedrock has steadily gained through years of releasing quality dance music that rides the waves of trends and fashions is the fact that this Bed100 release received over 12,000 listens on Soundcloud before it was even officially announced!

So perhaps it is fitting to leave it to the music lovers out there to tell us what they think of this release...

Brilliant choice for your 100th release John, the chaps certainly haven't let you down! Massive tune! With these two how could it be anything but great? Amazing tripping track! Super cool! Unbelievable! 2 of THE biggest producers in the scene = divine! This is perfect!!! Huge! Killer!!!! This is dream come true, great work from 2 great producers. AWESOME TRACK!!! Hell yeah! OMG!! This is massive! Insane! Amazing positive vibe! This track takes my soul back home at the sea. Beautiful track! Amazing beauty! Stunning sounds! Awesome tune!

Guy J has emerged over the course of the last two years to represent an intrinsic part of the new momentum in clubland. He has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. His distinct style and beauty were recently showcased on his stunning 3 disc '1000 Words' (Bedrock) album, so collaborating with Spain's Henry Saiz on ‘Meridian’ for Bedrock's 100th release was a match made in heaven. Henry's critically acclaimed 'Balance 019' album earlier this year has seen his star potential explode around the globe and the inclusion of his additional solo 'La Marea' track here is a mark of the highest level of quality that this extraordinarily talented young producer exhibits.

Hats off the Bedrock this is yet another stunning release. May there be many, many, more!
