I think similar news were posted on MS v.1.. i find it really amazin'. I think the prize is not too high since it glides (or something like that), so i think people will be able to go soon.. not sure though
i've said it before, but Burt Rutan is my hero.
i have no doubt that they'll be able to do it.
from the www.scaled.com webssite:
How much will it cost to get a ride into space?
Rides will not be offered in SpaceShipOne. The price of a ride will have to take in consideration the cost of certification and establishing an airliner-like operation. One goal of this research program is to see how low it might be without the burden of regulatory costs. At program completion we will have good data for operational costs and may publish them.
Is it physically stressful?
It is expected to be on the order of some modern theme park rides. The highest forces occur during reentry but build up gradually and peak above 5 G's for less than 10 seconds. With the pilot and passengers reclined, these forces should be quite tolerable for anyone in reasonable health.
this thing is awesome!!!! the only problem is that it's funded by Paul Allen of Microsoft fame, which means the system might crash in mid flight and then you burn up in the upper atmosphere screaming "goddamned windows!!!!!!!"

:ROFLMAO:
But like Tiddles quoted, as far as safety measures, definetely not. If your not in good enough health and you die, your fault. I don't think thats something that needs to be regulated that closely, people can regulate themselves. But of course thats how I feel about most everything.
And of course I wanna go. I think everyone would want to try it at least once.

How long do you think until the common people will have the chance to fly into space?
Do you think there should be safety measures and minimum requirements to fly into space?
What do you think Sasha And Digweed sounds like in outer space?
Do you want to go?!?
1. Probably a ways off...Or at least I hope we take our time to do it right vs. killing thousands of people in "Beta"
2. An exceptional amount of safety measures should be in place...everyone should have to come on naked to make sure no weapons are on board.
3. Sasha & John digweed make no noise b/c there is no sound in space (no air to move it).
