If its for your TV and not to use it in others i'd get the AppleTV. You can use mirroring on your ipad and forget about the cables. Its 99$ i believe.
Also getting the 3G is unnessesary, you got an iPhone right? tether your connection then .

Kamal, international 3G rates are INSANE. You dont wanna use it abroad.
There was a story of one guy that got a 10k bill for downloading like 10gb abroad lol

no, no interest in using an ipad with my tv... thats what my macbook is for, works great in that regard I just thought a usb port would come in handy is all.

Yea you can tether if your carrier will allow it, ATT will spank yo ass for trying. As for international rates, yea I agree its going to be expensive but if you download 10gb, you deserve to get whipped. I was referring to more cautious usage such as if you're lost touring a city and need to download a bit of the map in your area or find a restaurant / bar / sight seeing etc.

I've decided I will be on the internet too much with one ... If anything my family has enough computers I've decided. I would like something electronic to carry around to use for storing scripts, and to use as the occasional teleprompter for auditions, but I don't need an ipad for just that .

Since Nov I've held out on buying and now of course it makes total sense to wait until March when the iad 3 comes out to buy the ipad 2. I wonder what new features the ipad 3 will have though.

I was thinking about holding out until the iPad 3 as well and then I got the 2 for my birthday which was a pleasant surprise... now I hear that the 3 will be slightly thicker in size??? Not sure if I'd like that, I'm content with the 2 for now... but time will tell...lol

I have been trying to talk myself into buying a tablet for a while but i cant quite take the plunge. I cant see any advantage over a laptop as i would only use it round the house mostly, do you guys use them for trips/business or just like a new toy

^I have a couple uses that will make it worth owning for business. If it were just for personal use and no practical work use, I wouldn't buy one I since we already have a macbook and a pro...

I would be lying if I said that I don't enjoy new toys... but this baby travels with me everywhere I go.... its not just a toy IMHO

That is the main reason I got an iPad was for trips and the like. Most airports and hotels offer free wifi nowadays so I didn't feel the need to go the 3G route.

I must admit, it is nice being able to check the news and MS whike lounging or laying in bed with it being so light.

As far as the new iPad, I heard rumors last year that the only big difference will be the utilization of HD video and higher retina display resolutions as a result.

If you are thinking about purchasing a new Apple product, highly recommend checking macrumors.com beforehand to kind of gauge what may be released in the pipeline.

I picked up a second hand, baely used iPad 1 about 6 months ago from a friend. I was drunk at the time and probably would not have purchased it, but it was a good deal.

Anyway, it does have it's uses but I could live without it. It's very handy to surf the net on, as you can simply turn it on and you are instantly on the web - no waiting for a laptop to load etc. I know that seems trivial but sometimes I just cant be bothered to log on, log off etc.

I did install football manager on it, which has received some heavy use, so thats been good. I have also watched a few films on it which looked and sounded great. The real benefit for me will be the next time I travel anywhere long distance - the 10 hour battery life is a real bonus - I get so bored and nervous on planes.

I have seen the iPad 2 and it is obviously better than the 1.

I would say get one if you can afford it and you will use it!

Other than football manager, I think this would actually be a huge perk. I intend to make a baby at some point and it would be nice to have something that the kid would be able to watch movies on that doesn't require me to lug around a giant diaper bag with 100 million kids DVD's or blurays in it.

At the same time getting an iPad 2 or 3 for myself to screw around on would be nice, then when I make said baby it'll be old enough that I won't get sick if it gets mildly destroyed.
