    Release Notes :

    01. Henry Saiz - La Marea [Bedrock Records | Bed100]
    04. Henry Saiz & Guy J - Meridian [Bedrock Records | Bed100]

John Digweed’s Bedrock Records celebrates a milestone 100th single release in superb style with two of the best tracks that you will hear this year, from two of the most creative young producers in the electronic dance scene– Guy J and Henry Saiz.

In this day and age to not only survive as an independent label, but to flourish and constantly evolve, bringing forward new and exciting talent, is something that should be applauded. A mark of the global respect and love that Bedrock has steadily gained through years of releasing quality dance music that rides the waves of trends and fashions is the fact that this Bed100 release received over 12,000 listens on Soundcloud before it was even officially announced!

So perhaps it is fitting to leave it to the music lovers out there to tell us what they think of this release...

Brilliant choice for your 100th release John, the chaps certainly haven't let you down! Massive tune! With these two how could it be anything but great? Amazing tripping track! Super cool! Unbelievable! 2 of THE biggest producers in the scene = divine! This is perfect!!! Huge! Killer!!!! This is dream come true, great work from 2 great producers. AWESOME TRACK!!! Hell yeah! OMG!! This is massive! Insane! Amazing positive vibe! This track takes my soul back home at the sea. Beautiful track! Amazing beauty! Stunning sounds! Awesome tune!

Guy J has emerged over the course of the last two years to represent an intrinsic part of the new momentum in clubland. He has been at the forefront of a movement back towards the melody rich sounds on which house music is based. His distinct style and beauty were recently showcased on his stunning 3 disc '1000 Words' (Bedrock) album, so collaborating with Spain's Henry Saiz on ‘Meridian’ for Bedrock's 100th release was a match made in heaven. Henry's critically acclaimed 'Balance 019' album earlier this year has seen his star potential explode around the globe and the inclusion of his additional solo 'La Marea' track here is a mark of the highest level of quality that this extraordinarily talented young producer exhibits.

Hats off the Bedrock this is yet another stunning release. May there be many, many, more!

    02. Nick Curly - Libero (Sun City EP) [Cocoon Recordings | COR12"089]

    Label //Cocoon Recordings
    Artist // Nick Curly
    Title // Sun City

    A1: Sun City
    A2: Green Baize
    B: Libero

It has not gone by unnoticed that, over the last five years, the Rhein Main area has become a decisive nucleus for innovative, powerful and modern House music. One who is not entirely innocent of this is Mannheim-based DJ, producer and label head Nick Curly, whose imprints 8 Bit and Cécille Records are guarantees for standard-setting electronic dance music. Since his Cocoon debut "Pujante" (2009) and especially since the Party Animals Cocoon Ibiza Summer Mix 2010, he is a frequent and welcome guest at Cocoon's.

The three tracks of his "Sun City" EP are an impressive proof for Curly's maturation process: with a clear orientation towards the needs of the dancefloor, he exploits the sound potential of compressed House textures. The title track captivates the listener with a subsonically perfected bass line and a discoid Hi-NRG modulation, forming a deluxe prime time anthem, whereas the dense and dub-referring deepness of "Green Baize" is enchanting just everybody, and, for the final, "Libero"'s rich percussive rhythms are strongly stressing the pelvic thrust. So, virtually nothing can go wrong with Nick's World Tour between Ibiza, Moscow, Manchester and NYC!

    03. Spooky - Polymorph (Psycatron Remix) [microCastle | MCSL021]

The 21st release on microCastle sees the return of legendary electronic music act Spooky to the label for their mammoth 'Polymorph' single.

There are very few groups who can claim to be true pioneers; Spooky, however, are. Be it their auspicious debut album 'Gargantuan' on William Orbit's Guerilla, touring with Aphex Twin, remixing Sven Vath or producing the 'Involver' projects alongside Sasha , Duncan Forbes and Charlie May have been at the forefront of electronic music their entire careers. Their remix of Monaque's 'Resolutions' from July of 2010 was one of microCastle's most successful releases to date. It saw heavy play from John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo while enjoying an almost 6 week run in the Beatport charts.

Charlie and Duncan's futuristic sound design is on top form here yet again with 'Polymorph' which is perhaps Spooky's most colossal creation to date. A well textured bassline with a grainy pulse sits at the track's foundation. Angelically styled synths and an electric flow of driving energy build tension throughout as we approach the heart of the composition. The harmonic refrains and shimmering synths create a hazy wall of melodic sound that once again pushes today's sonic boundaries to the max. As the tension continues to build and the gargantuan sweeps intensify they eventually reveal a celestial finale that is emotionally moving and profoundly diatonic.

The Irish duo Psycatron famed for their productions on legendary techno imprints Planet E, Cocoon, Tresor, R&S and Tronic make their debut on microCastle and provide the first remix of 'Polymorph'. Psycatron have truly outdone themselves and overhauled the original in a genuinely inspiring fashion. Their 'Polymorph' interpretation is certainly one of the most sonically charged, melodic techno records of the year. The Irish duo's razor sharp lines, clever drops, keen dance floor sensibility and distinctively modern sound shine through wonderfully for what results in a twelve and a half minute epic for the ages.

Petar Dundov makes intelligent electronic music that breaks boundaries, moves feet and twists minds. He is without a doubt one of the most inspiring, original and daring producers in electronica, and with the likes of Sven Vath, Laurent Garnier, Hernan Cattaeno and Guy J singing his praises it would be hard to disagree. Petar follows his outstanding remix of Patrice Baumel's 'Vapour' for Trouw and provides the second and final interpretation of 'Polymorph'. Petar's subterranean groove is unmistakable and as profound as ever here, it's both unbelievably contagious and bursting with bubbly lava like textures. As the piece builds the uniquely interwoven lead melodies tease the senses mightily and the additional bass stabs enhance the groove even further. A dark drop with some sinister sound design sets the stage for a spine tingling, dulcet finale that is completely exhilarating.

    05. Patch Parl - Eatphones (Preface EP) [Fone Audio | FA001]

Fone Audio is the newly formed record label of Dutchmen Remy Unger and Patch Park. Both artists have an impressive track record and plenty of hours performing in a variety of venues worldwide. After gathering the necessary experience and releasing tracks on other labels, it was due time to start building a musical platform they are able to call their own. Because of their similar taste and passion, the process flowed naturally and now the guys are ready to present, "Fone Audio".

FA001 is a double-header featuring a track each from the label heads.

First up is "Eatphones" by Patch Park. For those of you who are unaware, this new original cut is a perfect example of the Patch Park sound. The continuous buildup to a mighty breakdown where a nasty lfo swept lead is introduced, only to take you back to the core business: throbbing beats!

Second in this package is Remy's "Multimode", trademark stuff from the Dutchman: pounding grooves, a solid baseline and a massive breakdown, ready to light up any room as soon as you hear the uprising pad. Flip the switch!

    06. Sven Elmlund - Loud (Alexander Kowalski Remix) [Damage Music Berlin | DMB006]

The summer brings a new digital-only release from Alexander Kowalski’s young, active and vigorous label Damage Music Berlin.

    Tracklist:
    01. Loud (6:05)
    02. Loud (Alexander Kowalski Remix) (7:42)
    03. Echo (6:32)
    04. Endless (6:25)
    05. Endless (Dirty Doering Remix) (6:53)

Featured artist is Berlin’s Sven Elmlund and his 5-track release “Loud”. Elmlund is somewhat of a multi-talent – film, photography and music productions – he has released on Sender Berlin’s unGleich label as well as the excellent “Sudden Success EP” on Funkhaus in 2003.

With his “Loud” release, Elmlund allows the beat to rest mainly in the very modern house range, avoiding stark minimalism in favor of crisp, groovy basslines and percussive slaps. The opening title track swings along as if self-generated, the driving bass weaving well with cowbell hits and excellent sound effects. Kowalski then remixes the track as if in photo-negative: contrasting intriguingly, giving punch and pulse to the swing yet bringing it around skillfully to the gratifying root of the work.

Track three “Echo” takes a slightly more minimal approach, circumventing bleak to lush keyboards that swathe across this contemporary track. This is followed by “Endless”, a piece dabbling in a darker mood; almost nodding to an 80’s feeling, sparkling into deepness: this could have been a quiet Anne Clarke score in its melancholy and introspectiveness yet proudly exerts a distinct modern sound.
Next up “Endless” is remixed by Dirty Doering, who you well remember from his “Loco Remixes” on Damage (DMB003). Here the track gets an injection of bite and groove in the form of vocal and woodwind samples jabbing and nudging in just the right places, carrying the track to excellent dance proportions.

    07. Julian Jeweil - Hermanos [Plus 8 Records Ltd. | PLUS8120]

Frenchman Julian Jeweil's second EP on Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 label is sure to confirm Jeweil's status as one of techno's most reliable talents. The four track EP encompasses everything Jeweil has honed in his ten year plus career – tough sounds, high energy and a fusion of electro and minimal that hypnotises as much as moves you.

"Hermanos" is a thunderous affair where tight, bobbling basslines quickly unravel to expose a housier percussive line and kick drum in their midst. When searching synths begin to circle and a filtered vocal snatch and chilling FX play off each other, it's anyones guess as to where the track will go next. Rather than exploding, it boils over then simmers repeatedly, with tension and motion coming from a number of apocalyptic samples, horns and bells.

"Tabasco" is even more tightly wound, with micro clicks and blips bubbling around an undulate beat structure that hits hard and deep once full in its stride. If that sounds good, things rally excel when frantic xylophone styled notes play busy, paranoid melodies that simply scream – ‘freak out!’ The third of four offerings,

"Circus" is another streamlined, urgent, minimalistic affair that establishes a groove early on before peppering it with the sort of abstract, alien sounds you’d expect. It’s bold and forceful but reserved and subtle at the same time, and it’s the balance between the two, which really enthrals.

"Juice" goes deeper and moans and groans in the darkened nether regions of minimal techno’s underbelly. A looping bass line falls deep below the twitchy synth stabs above. A micro-funk comes from the hooky percussive hits and the whole thing moves from a to b with a sleek, economic but efficient precision that confirms Julian Jeweil is well deserving of his place amongst the Plus 8 glitterati.

    08. Max Cooper - Epoch (Miocene EP) [Herzblut Recordings | 807297512915]

Listening to the music of Max Cooper, it’s easy to comprehend that he was once a scientist. His breakthrough tracks, the “Serie” trilogy, were three EPs inspired by different scientific and mathematical concepts and yet his music has never sounded coldly logical – meticulously designed, maybe, but each track was clearly born in a wildly creative and imaginative mind.

Label chief Stephan Bodzin has been a fan for some time and is happy to welcome the producer, whose work Resident Advisor compared to Philip Glass and Aphex Twin (“The End of Reason,” on Max’s SERIES EP), to Herzblut with his latest release, “Miocene”.

The first two tracks may be named after one the Earth’s most early geological periods, but there’s nothing prehistoric here. The title track launches in full futuristic mode, with glitchy, mechanical beats and fx, later upstaged by earth-moving synth pulses, and a breakbeat-style reprise that lifts the track still further. Stunning.
“Epoch” continues the futuristic feel. Spritely, cascading synths rise and fall whilst a smoother bass turns up the intensity beneath. Building to orchestral levels, “Epoch” demonstrates an arena-crushing potential.

Meanwhile, on the remix of “Miocene,” German duo Super Flu soften proceedings with a lolling bassline and a break that shows off the duo’s enviable ability to push each individual sound to its maximum – each hi-hat stroke, string pluck and rim-shot ringing out brilliantly.

    Max Coopers Soundcloud Comments:

Miocene : "This is the Aside from my forthcoming EP on Stephan Bodzin's Herzblut label, which will be out on vinyl + digital, along with an awesome remix from Super Flu. It's pretty simple on the whole, with a big wobbly bassline and some basic melody, but I've tried some slightly more experimental drum programming to hopefully keep it interesting. Really it's just meant for smashing out in a club though!"

Epoch : "Some discordant mayhem blips here. It's the B-side track off my forthcoming EP on Stephan Bodzin's Herzblut imprint. It will be released on vinyl 19th oct and digital 21th oct along with an awesome Super Flu remix of the Aside!"

Industrialiser : "This is the 3rd track off my forthcoming EP on Stephan Bodzin's label - Herzblut. I wanted to make something glitchy and sleazy here, no nice melodies to be heard....exactly the opposite!"
