GU is property of Ministry of Sound. Surprisingly Felix the Housecat and Sultan did not relaunch the label.

Been building up gaps in my Longbox collection from 024 backwards, had the sasha & diggers ones, but grabbing some of the others.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Those are keepers. Reprints are often of poor quality.

Sasha - SF has a skip on EVERY edition but the first. Warren - Budapest CD2 has a mysterious background noise in all reprints.
The editions included in the two Big Boxes are very poor, even the external cardboard cover is missing. Ugh.

I don't think it was the brand that fucked up, it was more to do with the way that music went. The DJ can only play the music that is in front of them and everything stagnated in 2001/02. There will never be another Northern Exposure, GU or mix CD in my lifetime that can superseded them releases from the 90's. The scene moved at such a pace that it suffocated itself in the process. The internet played a big part in that, just like Soundcloud played a part in killing many music forums. That dark plink plonk chugging sound is never going to come close to Liquid Cool or Julika.

Going to a Sasha or Digweed gig now is like going to a Rolling Stones gig, they're remembered for what they where, not what they are. people will go and tell you the night was amazing but I don't think it will be comparable to what they did in the 90s

It was the music that killed GU off, nothing to do with MOS

Not if you are in your early 20's. You wouldn't know any different. You would however notice that Sasha and/or Digweed weren't playing dubstep, or the music you hear on the radio (at least here). So for someone of that age/experience you would feel like you were at an underground music night. At least in the US you would.

No, GU, as run by the two fat boys, stopped existing. As the original Hed Kandi stopped existing. MOS (who released NE, lest we forget), tried to do something with the brand but it didn't work. It's still not clear if GU is on hiatus or what. I bet the Kaiser announcement didn't create much anticipation, dance cds sell thousands of copies, let's face it.

Balance wasn't killed by zeitgeist (as the NME would call it). Ren released the best comp in years with MANDY and now we hear this pretty shocking press release about Tale Of Us and Warren doing a Sound Garden-type of compilation.

People in charge must care about music, corporative thinking destroyed Kiss Radio too, Radio 1 lost many mainstays.

Yes, I think it was confirmed a while ago here or at Bedrock. That skip exists in every reprint (brigde cover). If Chris is reading this, under one of his aliases, he can confirm that.

Anyway, I'm selling the "Complete GU" boxes, not the longboxes.

Really, what did they try to do? they asked a DJ to put together a double mix CD that consisted of tracks that they where playing at the time. They weren't strong armed into putting tracks on them mixes, they where only governed by artists that wanted more money than their tracks where worth. Yes they picked some stupid DJ's but that's about it. Sasha & Digweed have had complete control over their mix Cd's in the last 12 years but have either of them superseded any of their releases since the 90's? NO! why.... because they couldn't find 25 tracks that would do it.
