    what is this bullshit America?

The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) are two bills that sound like they have a mildly positive aim but, in reality, have se

Why does this "Have to Happen.."

In my opinion this bill is a front that the government is using so that if the time comes for revolution the Government can regulate what information is shared and by what means that information is shared.. They are afraid of smart phone technology and people able to unite and share information almost instantly.

Egypt's ability to flood the streets in several cities all at once to protest scared the shit out of every government worldwide. They realized they couldn't control the people like they want too.

This bill is the beginning of the end friends. Enjoy the peace while you still can.

its not about the spread of information as u speak of more to do with the free spread of illegal files, since the digital age companies that deal with digital data ( music, software, films etc etc ) have been suffering badly because now the shoplifter just sits on his or her sorry ass and "shoplifts" from the comfort of their own home, i think this is what this bill is all about.

a guy i know had a major release on quite a major techno label, on the due release date he googled the song name and there was 9 pages of pirate sites offering a free download, this is not an isolated case... its fact... piracy is killing industry because it has become more accessible to more people and more and more people are willing to take the risk especially due to the fact there is another smaller internet industry based on feeding internet pirates needs.

ever download an album illegally ?

I personally think we should be redistributing the efforts of the productive class (their music, compositions, albums, etc...) and give them to those who cannot afford to make music or collect it (which is largely due to inequalities arising from historical wrongs).

                    Re: Protect IP / SOPA

This bill is kinda ironic. All we hear in the media is about wealth inequality and want wealth redistribution, but all this bill would do is put more money in the pockets of the entertainment industry ("the rich"). No one seems to mind these rich people though...... wonder why?

I agree something should be done about the illegal downloads of music and movies, but this bill is taking it so far overboard it's scary.

I've heard a rumor that physical cds will become extinct in the near future and I'm sure dvds will follow in a few years. One thing the entertainment industry could do to help themselves is lower the price of downloads, especially movies. Music files are getting cheaper, especially in our genre, but movie downloads are still $15-20 or more. Without the cost of production on a physical disc, shouldn't the price be lower? If movie downloads were $10 or less I and many more people would be inclined to buy them more often.

Music is the answer, to your problems. Keep on movin', till you solve them.

As far as I'm concerned, the fears about the potential for abuse with this legislation are also present with net neutrality. I can also envision the latter making the former easier to implement.

good point. maybe we should ban talent too? It's not fair that some people have ability and others do not. If we ban talent, then nobody will feel unequal.

you're missing my point here, the point of this bill is to protect those that have talent from the average everyday "shoplifter", just because its a crime "on line" doesn't make it any different from walking into a record store and swiping a cd imo its just become more accessible world wide because there is less risk than walking into a store and having to over come the stores security measures

why should we protect the haves from the have nots? if we banned the recording of music altogether, there would be nothing to steal. sounds like you're committed to a goal, but only wanting to go half the distance.
