Well we never had a 2nd birthday party... but considering our first saw Parisien auteur Shonky and a certain budding Lee Foss tear the Brickhouse down, you can be sure we will be pulling out all the stops for our 3rd. Since then we have rocked basements, warehouses, clubs and lofts before settling at our new home at Basing House. We witnessed New York originators, Detroit pioneers and Berlin innovators alongside rising hometown talent and all manner of craftsman across the musical spectrum that have inspired us, from the sounds of Cadenza and Chicago House to Berghain techno and UK bass. But the one constant has been your loving and rowdy support. So thank you and BIG UPs!
And now we are 3 and to celebrate we are bringing back arguably our favourite act to grace the Simmer stage, the electrifying KiNK. To say his stock has risen since we introduced him to London last November would be a huge understatement, but now he returns in a brand new live act with long time collaborator and acid house stalwart Neville Watson in their first performance on English soil. And we ain't stopping there... also headlining will be 90's UK techno pioneers Silicone Soul, whilst the venue will be decked with a whole host of birthday surprises.
KiNK & NEVILLE WATSON (Poker Flat / Rush Hour)
Since meeting online in 2006 after KiNK discovered 80’s acid house innovator Neville Watson had been playing out his tracks, the two bonded over their love of jacking Chicago cuts, Detroit techno, Disco and early Warp tracks. The two then set about on a prolific collaboration that has seen some massive productions primarily released on Steve Bug's Pokerflat and Amsterdam’s exceptional and hugely in form Rush Hour label. As remixers they are much in demand having reworked tunes to devastating effect for the likes of DJ Sprinkles, Mock and Toof and Donnacha Costello. Whilst their next offering is the much hyped collaboration with none other than Hercules and Love Affair vocalist Kim Ann Foxman. Revered by those in the know, they have finally succumb to industry, peer and public clamour to take to the road and play live together, and after hitting up some of Europe’s legendary venues from Trouw to Robert Johnson and Panorama Bar, we are extremely proud to host their first English live performance together.
SILICONE SOUL (Soma / Darkroom Dubs)
Since first appearing on Slam’s seminal Soma label in the late 90’s through to their more recent Darkroom Dubs guise, Silicone Soul have always held a special place in the overcrowded field of electronic dance music. Their pioneering and evolving sound have seen them gain residencies at some of Europe’s most celebrated clubs, scoop numerous DJ Mag awards, play festival arenas, storm the UK charts and launch their own imprint. But their passions and instincts belong to the dancefloor, famously turning down Top of the Pops in 2001 when their club anthem 'Right On' broke out of the underground into the Top 10. Free from vacuous trends, it is their esoteric, melodically driven and timeless style that have seen them remain relevant today. 2011 has seen them celebrate their 50th Darkroom Dubs release with a roster that has included the likes of Kiki, Anthony Collins and Alex Niggemann whilst becoming a mainstay of the UK’s most influential techno label of the last two decades culminating with a Soma 20th Anniversary takeover of Fabric just last month… This is going to be something special
