you really don't have to worry about what site you get the .torrent file from as long as you don't have to register with that site or, more so, with that torrent's tracker site. as Hollywood is in the process of cracking down on the torrents hosts, they confront the tracker owners with a choice of dropping the service and giving up the ip logs or facing a lawsuit. you all probly heard the lokitorrent story...

Without wanting to sound harsh, you were technically stealing and you got caught... shit happens. Yeah, it feels like big brother is watching you and it seems unfair, but fundamentally, it's no different from being caught shoplifting on CCTV...

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.

i just read something about legal implications for downloading in Holland. It is legal to download a copy for your self but it is illegal to offer songs movies and such.

sounds wicket doesnt it. als long as you download for private use its fine!!

Alright man I understand where you are coming from but...
                Hollywood is a joke.
                Hollywood blockbusters are crap.
They do everything for a buck, which I might add started prior to the advent of the interent/filesharing etc... Hollywood is nothing more than a marketing tool. They are in business of selling you movies/dvds/actors and Pepsi, McDonalds, and whatever other consumer bullshit they can tie in to said blockbuster. Anyway I can go all day.

Would it be so bad if that didn't have as much money?
Would it be so bad without another remake? Built-in audiences anyone?

The lady says it's because of abuse and transfers me to tech sevice. I'm thinking, Oh boy, here we go!!!! So the tech lady says "Did you download the movie "The Italian Job" because we got a report from the MPAA that someone at that account downloaded copyrighted material. I'm thinking, that's it! I'm toast. But she basically said that as long as the movie is removed from the computer and I am aware that the cable modem account could be terminated if done again, then they will reconnect.

Here's how it works: When you're downloading a torrent, most torrent clients will show you a list of all the ip's of the computers that are sharing that paticular file. Anyone from the mpaa, riaa etc can click on the link to download the italian job (the same way you did) and log every one of those ip's. After they have obtained an ip of someone sharing the copyrighted material they can do a lookup service to find out who owns the ip (this is your internet service provider. Cox Communications in my case). Once they know that Cox (for example) owns the ip they email cox telling them one of Cox's customers is sharing a copyrighted movie. Your isp will in turn notify you and possibly disconnect your service. A law was passed by congress that said that isp's couldn't be held responsible for copyrighted material passing around on their networks so long as they take measures to stop the material from circulating (ie, disconnecting your service and telling you to delete the file). So they have to take some measure to protect their own ass.

Now if you've managed to read all that and are still interested in my ramblings, here is the email the mpaa sends to your isp:

So, basically the mpaa pays people to comb the internet going to every torrent site they find and try to download movies to find what ip's are sharing said movies. Bit Torrent isn't really a private or anonymous system which is a shame because it makes it easy to get caught. Just be careful what you download!!
