Re: Samsung Galaxy S2 (ATT) Rooting

Poults, this shit is getting really confusing, can you paste in here how you've rooted your phone? I've found this thread but I'm a little confused

This approach to customizing your phone involves the following steps: 1. Read the flash counter. 2. Root your phone: - by using DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit. (ZergRush Exploit) - by using SuperOneClick Root. (ZergRush Exploit) - by flashing...

The early part of the thread shows how to root the device, but how do I flash Siyah once I've rooted the device?

And what's the difference between these 2 threads

Instructions updated based on creepyncrawly's thread found here . 1.) How to root by using DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit. (ZergRush Exploit) (Windows) Not working for KK6 2.3.6 Download the "DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit v3.0" package...

CLOCKWORKMOD-RECOVERY FOR GALAXY S II (AT&T) for use with Stock ROMs I'll update it every time something important has changed, like CWM changes or kernel updates from samsung. It's built from samsung kernel sources + teamhacksung initramfs...

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2 (ATT) Rooting

The easiest way to root i think is usin the odin program, simply put the phone in download mode, selct the file in odin, connect your phone and click start and the whole process is done in about 20 seconds, as for the different methods of rooting, i guess that is down to the individuals personal preference. The Siyah kernel will root your phone when you flash it so i would use that method if i were you, using the odin guide in this thread but with the Siyah kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1309293

When you flash a custom firmware though there is a binary counter that records the amount of times a custom kernel/firmware has been flashed but you can buy a jig from ebay for a few $ that will reset this although the newer official firwares have blocked this from working, you can however flash an old bootloader (again through odin) which will allow it to be used and reset. Someone in the I9100 forums replaces the bootloader in the firmware so the jigs always work, not sure if anyone across the pnd is doing that yet though. Hope this sheds a bit of light for you though, so simple once you get going though.

Thanks for that matey, rooted the device, officially nulled my warranty. Installed Siyah and I'm getting no where near those scores those folks are. What app are you using to o/c?

I havent delved into overclocking or undervolting yet i must admit and have never tried any of the benchmark tests, phones fast enough for what i need it for at the moment unless there are any games that would require it. At the moment i'm addicted to World of Goo, nice little puzzle game, well worth a look.

will check it out, what rom / kernel combo you on? I'm using unnamed 1.3.2 - he released version 2.0 but I rolled back as it had visual changes that I didn't like. But I did flash entropy's kernel to the latest experimental version and it's been doing good so far.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S2 (ATT) Rooting

Im just stock rom and the void.echo kernel, best by far definetly, its only half the file size of any other kernel (4.4mb i think) and so smooth and fast, unfortunatly he has put the project on hold for the time being due to studies. I have tried the aosp roms and quite like them but there isnt really any need for me to have anything but stock. I want to try the dual rom boot app that has been developed but it cant share the data partition at the moment but it is being worked on so as soon as that is done i will be giving a few other roms a try.

I messed with siyah but it's like 2 steps forward and 2 steps back with that rom, a new update for a fix ends up mucking something else. I stayed stock and went to entropy's kernel, which seemed just like stock. so i flashed the rom to unnamed and I have instantly noted a big jump in battery life.
