DJ Salary?

Hey, i always wondered what the top dj's like Digweed, Sasha, Danny Howells, Hernan Cattaneo, get paid... I know how much dj's make at small clubs, like rougly 200-300 bucks maybe... but never knew a rough figure for top line djs. Thanks!

nope.

they get free kandy (cocaine mayn) and hot boys and girls. perhaps a few free drinks. a few bucks for records and a larger ego.

big boys get the works. head every hour, any drugs, nice hotels, airfare, sweet ride or driven around in, super hot boy or girls, good meals, water, beer, more hot chicks and boys, and chicken. +1000 if there are lucky. depends on how big the venue is.

A reliable source I'm friends with works for a company that gets foreign DJs and other artists their visas for the states; I remember him mentioning around 2000-2001 that while Danny Howells got something like $2000 to play at Twilo, Sasha and Digweed got in the neighborhood of $20,000 (each or collectively, I don't know). Obviously that's why it's difficult to book them, among other things...

hmmm... me thinks 20k is yesterday for the big guys. just to give it some thought, a club like Crobar holds 3000 people and on a night like Sasha's Fundacion event is packed, plus constantly circulating more peeps. assuming everyone's paying the advance fee of $30 you get 90k right there. now that's just tickets/entrance($40) alone, and i'm sure the performers keep at least half of that if not more, since the club makes most of its money on drinks and VIP fees anyway...

damn, 20,000 for each one, thats the reason they havent arrive to my town.....holy crap......and they win that and get al the girls, drinks, cocaine with flavour, girls, more vinyls, free cd?s, tshirts, some gift from the promoters maybe...girls..... ........they should pay the meal and the hotel....hehehe

I sure the big djs get paid. 20,000 still sounds low. I remember sasha a couple of yrs back that he would get paid like 30 or 40 thousand to play on new yrs. So basic I am sure he can ask what ever he wants play. Think about how much Danny Tenaglia gets paid for his insanely long 12 hr + set during WMC. I am sure it is a lot.

I'm sure it has something to do with the club size, and if they are doing other dates in the area/state.
Sasha was at Icon a couple years back in Orlando, I would be very very surprised if they paid him 20K. That club is tiny, and the tickets were only about $20.00.

Or if they have personal ties to a certain area, such as Sasha does to Florida, they might go outside their normal booking agency and do a show for a bit less, or a lot less.
But, having said that, this little crap top 40/hip hop (and i use the term loosely) dj, Short E, used to get 1500.00 a night at this club near me, Rain.
And he asked for more money.. guess where he ended up? lol
At a place called Pop City, a video game/restaurant "venue".

they don't get 20k anymore for a gig. that's late 90's overblown dj market money. it depends on the city as well. we didn't pay sasha 10k to come here, wasn't even close.

if he's heading from chicago to dallas, and he can make a stop in stlouis for a few grand, it's as simple as that.

these 20k figures per gig are way out the window.

either way, 20,000 is about 15,000 dollars too much for sasha or digweed.

i'd be highly surprised if a dj makes $20,000+ at a party unless the venue is huge (even crobar would surprise me, though i've never seen how big it is). seeing those figures would make me practice a little more on my decks

Crobar in Miami isnt really that big (as compared to Space or Mansion). but with the drink prices, most south beach clubs make there money back rather quickly i would imagine.

7.00 water and 20.00 for a vodka and red bull
