Progrezo Records seventh installment in the Collector series comes from Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the de facto capital of the European Union (EU) and the largest urban area in Belgium.
Brussels has grown from a 10th-century fortress town founded by a descendant of Charlemagne into a metropolis of more than one million inhabitants. The metropolitan area has a population of over 1.8 million. Since the end of the Second World War, Brussels has been a main center for international politics. Hosting principal EU institutions as well as the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the city has become the polyglot home of numerous international organisations, politicians, diplomats and civil servants.
Although historically Dutch-speaking, Brussels became increasingly French-speaking over the 19th and 20th centuries. Today a majority of inhabitants are native French-speakers, and both languages have official status.
The architecture in Brussels is diverse, and spans from the medieval constructions on the Grand Place to the postmodern buildings of the EU institutions, including main attractions such as the Grand Place, since 1988 a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the Gothic town hall in the old centre, the St. Michael and Gudula Cathedral and the Laken Castle with its large greenhouses. Another famous landmark is the Royal Palace and the Atomium.
A symbolic 103-metre tall structure that was built for the 1958 Worlds Fair. Brussels has gained its own place within the finest electronic music movement around the world, not only by its outstanding and solid producers, but for the seriousness management of several clubs and festivals, becoming them in icons for world top artists' performances.
