DESCRIPTION:
Hidden Recordings once again puts the spotlight on top North American talent with the sparkling “Mercado Negro” from Mexico City duo Signal Deluxe. Hot on the heels of the pair’s acclaimed album The String of a Lyre, they make an exhilarating debut for Hidden that expands both the sound of the label and the artist for a breathtaking release that is sure to dominate deep winter dance floors. Remixes come from straight outta NYC from Derek Marin (Subtrak), Craft of the long-running Twice As Proper parties, and label owners Deepak Sharma + Dieter Krause. “Mercado Negro” is Hidden Recordings in top form to begin the 2012 campaign and another reason why they are THE label to watch.
TRACK DESCRIPTIONS:
Original – The original version is a dark, minimal groover that showcases the deep and sophisticated side of Hidden, one that very much compliments the high quality big room material that label carved out late in 2011. The bass line is rich, the melodies unique, and the groove hypnotic – the warm organic feel embraced by Signal Deluxe stands apart and this track is no exception.
Derek Marin Remix – Derek Marin brings his patented brand of melancholic tech-house to Hidden for a tension filled, melodic journey through the underground. The remix completely re-builds the original in to a turbulent but satisfying blend of punchy bass stabs, angular melodies, and pulsing pads
Craft Remix – Craft is a skilled techno DJ who began branching out in to production recently. His contribution is a standout. Thundering drums, menacing bass line, and excellent use of the stutter edit on the vocals has this track perfectly aligned for Hidden fans who prefer the dark, main room punch of tracks like “Antiz” and “Quemadura del Sol”.
Deepak Sharma + Dieter Krause Remix – Deepak Sharma + Dieter Krause commanded much respect as remixers in 2011, with a wide range of sounds and styles for various labels, including their own. Here, they deconstruct the original into what can be described as, “a gritty, punchy, drug infused after-hours bender of an affair” that grabs hold from the beginning and never lets go.

"If you like music that challenges your imagination then Mexico City’s Signal Deluxe are most definitely for you. The led track is somewhat epic clocking in at nearly eleven and a half minutes, but don’t let that bother you at this develops a sequence of completely intriguing sounds and vocal treatments all at its own pace – feeling almost ambient at times but with a deadly serious undercurrent too. Or to put that into other words, it’s a stunning piece of electronic music. But then so is the Derek Marin Remix who twists nasty stabs together with trippy vocals and slower beats. The Craft Remix lifts the tempo techno time for its unrelenting version, while the Deepak Sharma & Dieter Krause Remix stretches everything out into sonic extremes and might be something you would like to experience in a dark room (though perhaps not alone!) Again you could use the word exceptional."
