I remember Yao getting into rock climbing. By now I'm sure he's an expert rock climber.

Lol...finally found my way to this thread. Thanks Kabir . That would be me on the pic below, climbing in the French Alps. I have screwed up a few pulleys in recent times, so right now I'm slowly trying to them back to what they used to be. It's a matter of years, but I'll be patient if it means some cool and hard climbing for the next 20 years or so...

yeah, very nice. up to what grade did you climb in your prime?

that's great about climbing, one can still perform up until old age.

tomorrow i'll be at the rock again. i might make some pics then

Re: any ms members into climbing?

          6C+, projects in 7A French scale (USA 5.11b - 5.11d I think).

I've been fucking with my tendons for the past 2+ years or so, I tore some smalleer pulleys completely so I now have to make the switch to open-handed climbing (which is supposed to be better anyway) with a minimum of crimps. It's hard, but I'm now back at 6A with that climbing style and it's really cool to realize you can do so much on friction alone!

I'm following a strict schedule which will hopefully bring me back to at least my 6C+ in about 2 years, maybe even into the 7's as well. We'll see if it's possible with what I have now, though theoretically it should be possible according to my physician.

I did some climbing in Morocco too, but there's so many places I'd still like to climb...too many I'm afraid! Deep water Soloing in Ha Long Bay (Yes...what Tim Emmett did in Dosage) would be the cherry on my climbing pie I guess .

What is your grade, and where do you like to climb? I see you're located in Vienna, so you should have some awesome spots to climb out there! Did you ever go to Fontainebleau?

Oh...and what's your choice of climbing rubber

Nice bouldering!! what a sweet rock

I climb for about 2 and a half years now. I'm around 6c right now, some 7a which I cant send in one go yet.
Unfortunately I only started climbing on rock last summer. But I already managed to sent some 6b's in Greece.

Yeah, here around Vienna we have a lot of potential. But since I dont have a car yet, I can't go rock climbing on a regular basis.
More often I am in the gym and really try to push my limits

Oh, and I have never been anywhere else but some places in Austria and Greece. I would really love to go to Fontainblaeu, but there is no plan yet. Next location will be Arco Trentino, Italy. And another Greece trip this late summer most probably.

My favorite choice of rubber? I have always been wearing LaSportiva. I started with the Scorpion, which I bought a second pair from, especially for comfortable and friction climbing. Another pair (actually the second as well) especially for hard routes with smallest footholds and bouldering is the MiuraVS, I love that shoe. But it takes some time till it fits perfectly.
                What about you?

Nice pics man, I'd love to check out climbing in Greece sometime -Kalymnos, seaside climbing is still on my list . 6C-7A is nice, I hope you get to grow to 7-grade routes, that would really mean hard but cool routes. I'm still hoping I'll do my 7A sometime but that'll have to wait until I manage to get my tendons strong enough. I did one once, but I felt it was graded a bit too hard so I'm not counting it -I'd have graded it a 6C, 6C+ tops.

Don't you worry about the rock climbing either man, at least you've discovered it! I know a lot of climbers that don't leave the gym at all and will never know the feeling of touching real rock, sending a route and then enjoying the awesome view that is your reword up there. But you do . I'm thinking of treating myself to another Morocco trip by the end of this year if I manage to land a job again without digging into my reserves too much. It's either gonna be with a few other climbers from my hall of with an organized climbers' trip that goes there every year. I did it once before and loved it, so I want to go back anyway. I could keep you posted if you're interested . Maybe we could stay in touch anyway and see if there's a possibility to hook up and do some climbing sometime if you like. I'll be picking up lead again this summer and would love to go out for some ascents again...

I am very interested, please keep me posted. It'd be awesome if there is a way to do some climbing together. Possibly on a trip somewhere in the middle. Fontainbleau is pretty much a top spot on my list, just like Arco.

This late summer I'll be in Greece again, hopefully I can involve climbing somehow.
