Re: Fifty Years of The Beatles

A hell of a lot of deluded people on here suggesting The Beatles were 'overated' and a 'pop' act. Jesus man, they are still the most influencial group in music to this day.

To go from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road (thats seven studio albums) in five years (inclusive), it takes the modern band to release two albums in that time, and revolutionise the sound of music in such a short space of time will never be captured...ever.

^^^^ I beg to differ. They were way more than a boy band. They were one of the most influential bands in musical history. They paved the way for so many musical talents. I am shocked that so many people don't appreciate what they did for music

but abbey road is 1 hell of an album ...... "boy band"? maybe their first works , what george harrison did in his solo career is very good, thats why he is the first Beatle of the 4 that was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame .... but still im more of a Stones and Zeppelin guy .........

Re: Fifty Years of The Beatles

I respect The Beatles, their music, and so forth. But once you sit down and analyse the music, more so a Rock & Roll band, there's a lot of things I think they miss. The fundamentals of a good a great band: Originality, chord progressions, lyrics that are thoughtful and provoking, musicality.

The Beatles just don't really cut it when you compare to other bands during this time. Moreover, when people comment on the influence and so forth, I'd like a musician who actually was inspired by the Beatles to describe how so? There are millions of artists and musicians that are influential in today's music and so forth. All the Beatles brought is commercialism.

To me they played the game very well, and got categorised as a public figure more than members of a rock band. So here we are still talking about them 50 years on, exactly what they wanted.

But as soloists, Harrison and Lennon is something special. Now those two in their solo career was pretty amazing.

Hence my quoting from from Rubber Soul onwards. But even before then, they were writing and composing their on music then performing it a live. Before that, Elvis included, (and you just need to look at my Avatar how much i love Elvis) nobody done that.

Listen to Tomorrow Never Knows, you here The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy etc with drum loop. Right through to Helter Skelter were you are hearing the heavier side hence the start of heavy rock. Even Ozzy Osbourne said 'no The Beatles, no Black Sabbath, hence no heavy metal.

                  Boy band my arse!

I love The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin to peices. But The Stone' were just a blues cover group and were told if they want to become big, they will have to copy the The Beatles, by writing and performing their own material. Hence one of there biggest early hits was a Lennon/McCartney throwaway...'I Wanna Be Your Man'.

Re: Fifty Years of The Beatles

take a band formed with "good" musicians, produce their image, give them the best recording studio 24x7, assign them one of the best producers, and bomb the world with commercial spots... there you have the beatles. Of course, it worked better than expected because they were good musicians. They were used to introduce young people into the market, and it worked. Rock was the way to get the youth into the market, and it still does.
so, to me: ok, they have some nice tunes. But so far away from being the best band. Not even close to Miles Davis, Pink Floyd or Zeppelin.
                      Itīs a spiritual thing!

Beatles are like the Soprano's. Everyone said it was great when it came out, and it influenced all the shows that came after it, but it just doesn't hold up now to what has come after it, ie Mad Men, The Wire etc.
It's never too late to become the person you always thought you would be.
