    John Digweed:

Wow, what can I say about this party in Cordoba earlier this year to do it justice? The crowds in Argentina never disappoint and are always up for a great night but this party took things to a whole new level for me. I played for over 5 hours and really didn't want to stop, as I was having so much fun. Sounds like a strong release! was waiting from Diggers to release something similar like Sasha did back in 2006 with Avalon, which has btw better crowd recording treatment than Digweeds previous live sets from Structures albums. This will be a crowd record most probably, but i hope its a decent one.

tbh, tracklist puzzles me a little from preordering it :\
    doesn't look so promising...
and btw he should have released the 3rd our of this live set instead of the Unmixed CD imo.

But anyways, seems like a great release from the man

if the set really was what it was... why not just release the whole 5 hours? why bother with this 3xCD compilation crap?

Re: John Digweed Live in Cordoba 3 x CD / Bedrock upcoming release

I was thinking the same thing. He could've released the whole 5 hrs as a download and charged $5 for it. He probably would've made a lot more money that way, considering the lack of production costs. I would gladly pay $5 for a 5 hour Diggers set and I bet many other people would've of as well. Now we have to wait 2 months to get 2.5 hours of this set on cd. I love my cd collection, but it makes so much more sense for the artist to go all digital, offer more, and accept less. Otherwise, they'll sell a handfull of copies and that shit will just get distributed across the web for free in a matter of hours from the release.

That being said, I do still dig on a good mix cd, and will totally buy it if it's one of those that will stay in rotation for the next 10 years.

Music is the answer, to your problems. Keep on movin', till you solve them.

Releasing this whole 5 hour set would be a real treat, or he could @ least give a beatport code to everyone who will preorder or buy the Comp, to download a digital release for the rest of the set, that would be nice as well.

I can recall, on Structures, Diggers wanted to include the full Vagabond 2010 set on the DVD, but cited the fact that some of the record labels were going to charge too much to allow their tunes to be used, or something like that, as the reason why just a CD's worth of the set was included - in short licensing issues restrict what can be done when making a set commercial.

Suffice to say I'm looking forward to this anyway.

But surely a lot of people want the physical CDs still - maye I'm old school, but I'd hate to think we hit a point where there's no physical release of music.

One of the negatives of the download culture is there's too much music that just sits on the drives (usually played once) or shared illegally, making people decide to stop releasing. Plus there's a lot of impatience, rather than actually looking forward to something arriving in the post to add to a collection.

Many were brought up on the idea of CD comps like Renaissance and GU - ones that didn't just collect that summers hits, but gave a feeling of what went on with club sets without also banging it out too hard so you couldn't listen at home.

My grip will probably be that its not in longbox format with a detailed travelogue, as I love collecting box sets with detailed background on the artists, music and event (I have tons of Jazz box sets that do this really well, as GU did).

This is a fantastic idea - I know Diggers thought Cordoba was one of his best gigs in years and really special - in fact he was buzzing about it so much afterwards it seemed like he wanted to do something special ... how many DJs are still honestly like that ?

Rather than put the set out as a Transitions broadcast he's got the tracks licenced and signed up a batch of the music for DJs who like the music and want to play some of it it out - there's also a batch on vinyl too ffs. That for me is a sign of someone that loves the music they play and that wants to do something about it, rather than take the easy route. Long may this continue - that passion and drive around new music is something I really respect.

I honestly hope this sells by the bucketload, as (fingers crossed) that would signal other future releases and mean I can listen to a great part of a recent set on my home stereo, rather than have a crap youtube video rip playing from my laptop !

You get this in addition to the live Transitions sets that come out - so it's a bonus, and one at a meagre £10.99 that I'll happily pay for with full support !

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Re: John Digweed Live in Cordoba 3 x CD / Bedrock upcoming release

I agree with Danny Tenaglia in that being there, at the actual event, nothing can substitute the feeling/vibe/everything that goes on when you are actually present... Second best is getting an actual clear recording... it is the second best in being able to get to that feeling.

The thing that I enjoyed so much about Global Undergroun compilations is what came included with the CD's... the booklet, the story that came with it.. it really helped in creating an atmosphere to go along with the compilation... that and the travelogue that came with the long box was a real treat as well.

Barring the above, I much prefer to hear the actual live set rather than a mere 2 CD's that are a subset or often than not an "inspiration" by the event and I am sure that most people on this forum would share that.

Some people may think I am crazy.. but I have felt for years now Digweed is bit of a stooge when it comes to releasing sets. I know he does a weekly radio show & releases live sets through that, but seriously who wants to hear "Transitions" every 2 or 3 mins throughout the recording!

I can't remember the last Digweed LIVE set apart from the Croatia set in 2009?.
Guys like Sasha & Danny Howells are still releasing clear recordings of sets 4+ hours least once a year.

Digweed just comes across as not doing as much as possible for his loyal fans is all.

I don't have issues with buying a cd for relatively cheap, but mp3 and flac versions of the whole night should be added, it's about time. Even Blue Rays have physical limitations that make them obsolete. You can sell pdf booklets, hi-res cover art, it can be even better than the old jewel case.

I think there're pros to everything, what companies like Bedrock gotta do is work on different formats. Especially when it's electronic progressive music you'd think they would be a bit more progressive when it comes to releases!

Offer different packages, release options, etc

A normal CD release that is available in store (if there're even brick and motar stores these days), purely mp3 version, and a CD + mp3 deluxe pack.

Would be nice deluxe pack that features posters, booklet, and videos, behind-the-scenes, interviews, AND the music.

Back in the day the GU long boxes differentiated themselves enough to be collectibles, the music industry needs to rethink how to add value to make releases collectible in people's minds again.

Just seems silly to restrict/think in the multi-cd format when we have so many options these days that'll satisfy everyone.

diggers should release the whole set as hq mp3 download for free on soundcloud or whatever...he seems to have enough material on his label to be released (singles, albums, collabs cd, underground miami cd....) where he can make $$$
