Piemont - Komboloi (Incl. Mihalis Safras and Hanne & Lore Remix)

Piemont AKA Frederic Möring-Sack and Christian de Jonquieres (sound design students who have also worked as Phunklarique and Dejonka ) have been making electronic music for years. Their records to date have found their way into the record bags of DJs like Richie Hatwin, Dubfire and Carl Cox, probably because of the large array of influences that permeate the German pair’s work. Now they return on their own Plumbum with “Komboloi” – a new track backed with hot remixes from Mihalis Safras and Hanne Lore.
The original is another fine tech house concoction with plenty of percussion and instrumentation to keep it fresh. Riding on surging waves of beats and bass, well-defined clasps and various trumpets pepper the grove, as do what sound like muffled chanting voices. It’s a kind of tribal affair that will demand anyone who hears it dances immediately.
For his remix meanwhile, Material boss Safras goes even deeper into the jungle and ups the tribal ante with more distinct horn bursts, tropical sounding drums and plenty of humid atmosphere. Closing out the package is Hanne Lone who strips things back and heads into deeper housier territory for his remix. The centrepiece is some fizzy, rasping melody work at the mid way point and the package overall is essential as a result.
