Most seasoned US listeners can probably say that at some point or another Derek Plaslaiko played one of the best sets that they’ve ever experienced in their life. That is because since his early 90′s rave days until now, Derek has never taken any short cuts. He’s known for doing overtime digging crates to find records that will perfectly fit his collections and for possessing one of best characters in the industry. As a strictly vynil DJ, he has perfected his skills in his early years by, among other things, listening and going over old mix-tapes from the godfathers of Detroit Techno. His hard work and his ability to transport an audience on a musical quest has led him from a residency at Detroit’s Motor in the mid 90s to a coveted residency in 2004 at NYC’s renowned Bunker club. Only in the last few years has Derek started to put time into releasing his productions but his initial notoriety was purely acquired behind the decks, something quite rare. Currently, Derek resides in Berlin traveling Europe from gig to gig and this year, he will make his second and long awaited appearance at Detroit’s Electronic Musical Festival. Also, keep an eye out for his next TUNE: BMG & Derek Plaslaiko – Is Your Mother Home – IT29, which happens to also be featured in this podcast.
