Whilst you may not be too concerned with the Queen’s Jubilee, we’re all thankful for an extra Bank Holiday and therefore and extra excuse to party. Leeds’ The Warehouse is stepping up to the occasion once again with a very special Hard Times night headlined by house institution David Morales.
Hard Times is one of the most legendary house promotions to have ever existed in this country. Stephen Raine (formerly a farmer) was the man who started it all in the early 90s and over saw the extension of the hell bent house night into a strong brand also encompassing a short lived but much-respected label.
Hard Times parties were held in various venues across Yorkshire and further afield, from Mirfield to Bagley’s film studio in London, always garnering plenty of excitement from people starved of such excellent house offerings up until then. In fact, the latter of those one was of the largest garage gatherings the country had ever seen.
Famed for being the first party to bring top US jocks like Louie Vega to these shores, the label exported the American garage style with artists like Todd Terry, Masters at Work and Roger Sanchez the first three names who put out on the label up until 1996 when the brand disappeared into the ether. It has since been remembered as one of the most positive forces in dance music, with an ever open policy that saw straight and gay people, black, white Cuban or Asian people all dancing together, as one.
For one night only, though, it is back, with none other than David Morales heading up the party with a very special 6 hour set. David is an internationally acclaimed Grammy-winning house music DJ and producer who, in addition to his production and DJ work, is one of the most prolific remixers of all time, transforming many pop music songs into club-friendly dance tracks.
This will be a nostalgic night that re-captures the hedonistic house days of yore courtesy of the influential crew that was Hard Times… a rare treat, to be sure!
