I tried to use unrevoked a few times on my evo but it didn't work. its couldn't root it and failed every time. the faq said possible apps could cause this bug, but i deleted every app i installed and rebooted and tried a couple times and it still kept failing

I did it from my Mac, the I plugged the phone, the app notice it, it then copied the exploit to the phone and then tried to root it. But each time it gave me the error above.

What version of Android are you running at the moment?

I think that could be the problem... it might be too new. baseband version is: 2.15.00.12.19

Yeah, you might be out of luck, at least in terms of using unrevoked. Take a look at this thread, though -- if nothing else, it ought to be able to tell you whether or not it can still be done with your current configuration:
