Paraguay – new home to the finest in classic-sounding jackin’ house. It sounds an unlikely statement, but if Paraguayan trio LPZ, who provide this week’s DJ mix – are anything to go by, it could well be fact pretty soon.
The three brothers that make up LPZ – Kenny, Cosmo and P. Lopez – have been throwing parties, DJing everything from jungle to UKG, and generally ripping it up around Paraguay for the best part of eight years, also finding time to release some low-slung electro-hop. But more recently, the brothers three have been producing some absolutely storming retro house business that sounds like it’s flown in straight from mid-eighties Chicago.
For their Clash mix, LPZ delve deep into all kinds of housey goodness, including Gavin Herlihy’s ‘Get Loose’ and Marc Houle’s hypnotic ‘Undercover’, but also explore their love for electro-boogie and funk, courtesy of a disco rework of Tom Noble’s ‘Dancing Hard’, which opens things beautifully. Some thoroughly modern bases are also covered, via the ever-appreciated Maya Jane Coles, Claude VonStroke, Jimmy Edgar and Lando Kal, all making for a dangerously addictive mix from an act to watch like a hawk.
