    Is America killing dance music?

''It’s been a turbulent couple of weeks for DJs in the US. Last Monday, plenty of feathers were ruffled when house hero Mark Farina alleged he’d been kicked off the decks by a “table service crowd”. Then just a few days later, Calvin Harris declared that he’d got the boot for declining to spin hip-hop and, uh, tween sensation Carly Rae Jepsen. Of course, those are just two – perhaps isolated – incidents. But considering them in the grander scheme of the EDM explosion in the States over the past few months, you’ve got to wonder: what is America doing to dance music?''

i wouldn't say that... there is far more people in america so there are bound to be a lot more varied tastes which some dj's just aint catering for but in saying that the people that book the dj's in the first place should know their shit about what to expect

I would say that the US is killing dance music with the Top 40 MS shit. Everything from Pitbull to Rihanna is now horrible dance music.

Its a new generation out there no doubt. Can't stand top 40 bullshit here, and when they remix it, even worse. And yes, I agree, too many fucken kids combined with the fact that they don't know shit.

thebanned1, it probably does still apply because the same percentages of people would have similar tastes. And tastes tend to be learned by exposure and I doubt American kids are exposed to anything really different to ours. Anything being said here is being echoed in Australia spades

Re: Is America killing dance music?

I was @ EDC in Vegas this past weekend.. i would say EDM is alive and kicking in the US. I am a little worried about the fact that most people (specially the younger crowd) are all about afrojack/avicii.. and the rest of the more commercial DJs, but overall.. I was surprised at the amount of people that the event turns out. I thought people had a great time. Here are couple of pics
