Everybody eats – we all know this to be true – and everybody, it seems, currently wants a generous helping of our latest mix artist, Eats Everything, Bristol’s latest production ace.
It’s fair to say that Eats (Daniel Pearce) has risen to prominence pretty bloody quickly, but also that the attention he’s been gathering from the chattering masses is utterly deserved. Instilling a range of bass-heavy and groove-gripped elements into his house productions, Pearce dips into a range of sonic territories to nail his point across, from post-Chicago and Detroit rhythms to ambient garage washovers to bootified ghetto-tech.
He soon picked up the attention of Dirtybird head honcho Claude VonStroke, who released the ‘Eats Everything’ EP on the label (Pearce has also released on Jackmode), and has been closely aligned to the label ever since.
Pearce’s mix is largely an underground affair, showing a fondness for low-key but high-impact sounds from a few far-from-obvious producers. Included is some refined urban ambience from London producer DJ Rum, the oft-reworked ‘Percolator’ from Chicago’s Cajmere, which Pearce, well, percolates into leftfield twitch-house. This is followed by garage duo Disclosure, a track from excellent Bulgarian producer KiNK, and to finish things off, Pearce even indulges in a cheekily upbeat rework of Major Lazer’s slow-burning ‘Get Free’. All essential stuff.
Eats Everything will be one of the many impressive ‘Fresh Blood’ talents performing at the immense We Love… Space, Sundays sessions in Ibiza this summer, where he’ll be playing alongside Dirtybird luminary Justin Martin and Dirtybird label boss Claude Von Stroke on 9 September.
