I am moving across the country and it looks like the company I'm using is turing out to be pretty shit. I am worried about using them now. Does anyone know besides looking on the BBB homepage how I can find a good company in Seattle that can do a cross country move ASAP? Help!

While I don't have the name of any long-distance movers, if they are packers and movers and are willing to insure the value of your move without any fineprint bullshit, you should be fine.www.mjwebhosting.com

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me -

Most of them do the quote of your stuff for X dollars and then might jack the price up b/c it is by weight and then try and dick you around at delivery time and hold ur shit hostage if they want if you dont agree to the price change. I just don't want them breaking my crap is my main concern and I'm on a short timeline now that I've found out this place I'm using is pretty bad. I need to get something ready by this weekend. May I suggest you sell everything before you move?
Seriously though, good luck, I've driven all my stuff cross country but never commissioned a moving co before for that far of a distance, only within the city I live in. In which case I call and ask a lot of questions first and figure out if they are right for the job or not. There should be reviews of reputable moving companies online right?

Re: How do I find a reputable moving company?
Eh the moving industry seems to still be pretty fragmented and shit right now when it comes to trying to find something easily online with a bunch of peer reviews. The BBB has accredited businesses but nothing for Seattle under Movers, plus I think you need to take the BBB with a grain of salt sometimes b/c people can pay to become accredited so its just about $.
I googled around and found what I am going to use last night and gave them a call this morning and this looks like what I need. My stuff will get locked in my own containers with my own locks, like PODS but has more shipping and storage options: http://upack.com
. Thats dandy but I also need help packing my crap here and on short notice and they said they do that too. Plus no BS about poundage after you ship with them, they only charge you the # of containers you use, not by weight.
The guy is trying to get me hooked up for this weekend and if not I will prob be able to do it Monday and they have ppl that will come help me haul all of my shit out of my place. This city sucks for anything like this because you need a damn permit to put any containers on the street for any amount of time it is dumb so I have to work with possibly dealing with that now too, but I think I have a 2nd parking space I can snag for a day or so if they have to leave the container overnight.Comment

Re: How do I find a reputable moving company?
It was good. The city is kick ass and a lot prettier with better weather than where I am going to be moving back to, but working a shitload and having my job change 100% from what it was supposed to sucked ass. It is working out for the better though. Too bad everyone I know doesn't live out here or I'd be happy to stay. It will be much cheaper back home to get a nice pad though.Comment

Haha no kidding. I don't know too many people out here, and the few I do are fat computer nerds from work, so I sure as hell know they won't be able to help me lift my stuffComment

Re: How do I find a reputable moving company?
Yup. I just bought this baller ass couch out here and it is screwing me because it is so large. It is 10.5' x 8.5' a huge 2 piece sectional so that plus my other stuff takes up a ton of space.Comment

Re: How do I find a reputable moving company?
I would sell as much as possible, and move light. Last time we moved, just across town, we sold nearly everything in our loft, and just bought all new stuff for the new space. If you have nice stuff, you can get decent money for it on Craigslist. It's hard to place furniture from one space to another, especially if you are in a situation like we were, going from a warehouse style loft to a turn of the century brick house. Do you already have a place for a couch that big? That's a big ass couchComment
