      Re: Northern Exposure Vol One

As a coincidence I had NE1 on today, both CDs on the bounce ... sounded sublime and never cease to amaze me.

Ebay has copied regularly, but expect to pay a fair bit for a pristine copy:

NORTHERN EXPOSURE Sasha John Digweed 2CD UK 1996 dance | eBay

Northern Exposure - Sasha and John Digweed (CD) 22 Tracks - Mint - Very Rare 5026535400127 | eBay

In monetary terms its a great investment, the price of a bottle of grey goose or decent scotch, but will give you more enjoyment and you avoid the hangover.

You can't put a price a great music though.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

Hardest part is that only the 2CD versions were released in the UK. Americans always trying to release everything under their own label in single CD's (re: Thrive releasing GU versions with different covers etc).. also years after they were already released in the UK.. so the UK versions are the true Originals. That is why they are so hard to find.

There are only three, with many covers of them.
that must be the reason of my confusion.

possibly the best ever VINYL release there has been, don't get me wrong the cd is perfect also but having most of the tunes in full gives it that something a little bit more... probably one of my best buys ever

I have that too, Dark Train has its own side . A collector (a geek like us) needs to own every copy, because it's like your first love/sex, you wish there was more of it! The vinyl is cool but the two mixes are hard to match, Sasha's mash-up of the two versions of I Am Free, the Dark Train's stabs at the end. The surface noise when Positron starts to play! And all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain! (which is also a reference to Ren 1 ).

                          Totally agree.

i remember working in a HiFi store when it came out, on a busy saturday we had it pumping out all day and so many people went and bought it.
From your goths through to New Romantic types, even one guy who came in for a demo with nothing but classical, just people who had never listened to dance before.

I even have Northern Exposure 2: East as a separate playlist on my iTunes.

It was magical the first time I heard them. The amount of time it took to feel transported to another world was so short.

It was fun while it lasted...
