Todays guest is JB:
JB has been DJing for over 15 years. He started out playing soul and hip-hop, but with the release of ?Jack The Groove? in 1987 JB began his lifelong love affair with House music. Playing in and around the London warehouse scene at clubs like ?The Dungeons?, ?Erotica? and ?Jabberwocky?, JB soon became interested in the burgeoning pirate radio circuit. In 1991 he and a group of friends started the now infamous Energy FM, which lasted for around 3 years and hosted many of today?s biggest DJ?s such as Terry Francis, Dave Mothersole, Nathan Coles, Baby Ford and many others. Around this time a lot of the stations were playing hardcore/jungle music. Energy was always a bit different with a more diverse musical policy playing all kinds of House through to Detroit Techno. It was during these years that JB developed a style that blended the best of contemporary Techno and House - a style that he has been developing and updating ever since and which has lead to his central position in the emergence of Techouse in the UK. Guest spots ensued at the major clubs of the time including ?Knowledge? and ?the Paradise club? to name a few.
As the big raves of the time were getting shut down, the UK became embroiled in the free party scene. The major players in this were the ?Spiral Tribe?; JB lent them his sound system and guaranteed prime spot every time he made it to one of their parties, which was quite often as these things could go on for days? After the infamous Castlemorton 7 day party, the ?Criminal Justice Bill? put an end to the free party era and JB concentrated on the club scene.
Things have progressed quite a long way since then. JB is co-founder and resident DJ of the Dance Wicked organisation, which is home to three record labels: Dance Wicked Records (Soulful House) Modern Electronic Soul or MES Records (Techouse and Deep house) and Advanced Dance (Techouse to Techno). All three labels continue to go from strength to strength with an active release schedule. Digital Distribution is now distributing dance Wicked and MES while Advance Dance is currently on an import only basis. There is also a production company in the making, set up with old buddy Colin Dale, as a means to get more music out through other labels.
This has led to JB playing with the world?s top DJs including Timmy Regisford, Tony Humphries, Danny Rampling, Kerry Chandler, Derrick May, Pippi, Robert Owens, Terry Francis, Colin Dale, Dano, Mattius Heilbronn, Paul Oakenfold, Layo and Bushwacka!, Mr C, Hipp-e and Halo (H-Foundation), Richard Grey, Pure Science and many others at some of the best venues in the world including ?Fabric? ?The Cross? and ?The End? (London), ?Centrofly? (NYC), ?Level Nightclub? (Miami), ?Wagg Club? (Paris), ?Underground? (Ibiza), ?Garden? and ?Pacha? (Budapest) and ?Discoth?que? (Barcelona). JB also holds a weekly residency at London?s EGG Club night ?Jaded? and at Eukatech parties across London and is resident and co-promoter of Afterhours, which are London bank holiday specials at venues such as Plastic People and Cherry Jam. There have also been guest spots at Blonde at AKA in London and Prologue.
In addition to this JB is currently supporting DJ to the Radio 1 outside broadcast tour. This has included playing at major gigs such as ?Glastonbury 2000/1/3/4 ?Gatecrasher Summer Sound System?, ?Homelands? and ?Love Parade 2000? to name a few. There have also been trips to Amsterdam, Moscow and San Francisco in the past couple of years and held a tri-monthly residency at Centro-fly in NYC for a couple of years taking Dance Wicked to New York. Last year also included trips to Ibiza, France and Hungary where JB played to the million strong crowds at the Budapest love parade and so far this year Sullivan Room, New York?s best underground club have had him over too amongst others on that trip.
